I agree. The bubble is beginning to burst.

I understand squeezing the market. I understand that these are niche and incur development and licensing costs. But here's the thing:

I've been in this hobby for coming up three years now...not an old-timer by any stretch. I've played catch-up with old releases, customized, kit-bashed, and bought new releases. I've bought and sold.

I'm not wealthy by any stretch, but I do okay in that I can afford a stupid price on a useless Star Wars collectible. I can buy some stormtroopers and not eat noodles for a month.

But there's only so much perceived value you can get from these things. In the short time I've been around the prices keep climbing but the inherent flaws i.e. quality control, materials, variable screen accuracy ... haven't gone anywhere and don't look like they will. There are some excellent releases and some good ones, but plenty of problematic products with the prices only climbing and companies like SSC are asking for financial commitments on photographs of prototypes.

It's a fun game but a fool's game. I have my favourites and I'm out. This was always the way it was going to be for me, but any crazy ideas I may have had for a larger collection stop dead at value for money. Only so much I'm willing to spend on high end toys before I decide I'd rather buy the tailored suit or the plane ticket, or the fine dining with my girl.

I don't know that the hobby will implode...I don't know enough about it and see some very committed people on these boards with vast sums of money and time invested. But I question the longevity of new people's involvement given the financial barriers to entry and the attrition these prices will likely cause in the long term.

I bought five stormtroopers. Quite the indulgence. But I can live without almost everything else I've seen. :dunno

Yeah, I think it varies but with the new movies starting up and if the quality of the Marvel movies continues I think the doll market will be sustainable. I only really first started paying attention when the quality improved and price had tripled (snowtrooper), the earlier cheaper ones held no interest to me. Everyone has to draw the line though with prices always going up, even if it doesn't mean quitting, it'll certainly mean buying fewer. Space wise that's maybe a good thing though.

I seriously started slimming down my collection due to space, at one point I wanted to be a Star Wars completist, but I had to cut down on just the main figures I really wanted. I was also into Ironman as well and wanted to be a completist in that line too, :rotfl, I have no idea what versions/ Marks that line is now at.

It find it highly impractical to be a Star Wars completist. That 's putting it mildly.

There are two ways to collect: you can reference pop culture or you can document it. The latter way lies madness, IMO.

Yeah I don't see myself getting burnt out on collecting these any time soon (especially with all the BvS and Justice League figures sure to come out in the coming years!). Obviously there will always be figures that are priced a bit higher than they should be, or higher than I'd want to pay (like this HT Vader or, ahem, certain Sideshow figures), but if that's the case I just... won't buy them. Plain and simple.

I don't really see it being some huge issue, or something worth taking a stand over. The companies will charge what they charge, and if that ultimately becomes too much for my wallet, I'll just shift to a new hobby or focus more on customizing or something.

That SS version was originally a E 5 and 6 but they changed it to just E 6. Even on the product page it says this.
I am sure SS will do another.

And it will be 35 cm tall. But yeah, would love a 'pure' Vader from ESB.

I was wondering why this drawing looked familiar in the 3rd issue of Darth Vader from Marvel....it reminded me of the hot toys sculpt...Then I found this:

One of the toy fair pix from a contributor....sorry I don't remember from whom, but the artist obviously used the picture as a reference ( in addition to the sideshow figure for the majority of the artwork.....

So odd. That middle panel is clearly that pic, and then the next panel is clearly the SS figure. Nice catch.

Interesting how the artist also replicates the incorrect shade of the interior side of the eyelid of vader which is supposed to be pitch black --this is what hides the true size and shape of the actual lens...

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are witnessing the implosion of this hobby. This is the beginning of the end.

Or - and I am hoping this is more the case - a market re-adjustment of prices versus quality. Quality has topped out, imo. Prices in dire need of re-adjustment.........Vader should be $199 based on what we are getting.

Finally bit the bullet on the pre-order for this figure. I don't usually like paying nonrefundable deposits but I know I want this figure so I don't have a problem paying it in this case. Used the March code to bring the cost down a tad.
