There must be some obscure motivations. How can they add even the brush marks on the mask but completely fail the helmet shape?

Incompetence? A real lack of interest in the subject matter? I think HT are more interested in the marvel characters,iron man etc and just don't have a real love for SW. This is the one character that i really thought they would get right from the off. For me personally vader IS SW and ANH look is my fav. While the overall look of the fig looks great that helmet 'and the mask to a degree' are just killing it.

I'm pretty happy with my own custom for now and cancelled this guy a while back(a first for me). I'll wait for in hand pics to see if HT can hopefully tweak the helmet before i decide on buying.

I second that my custom is better and my custom anh will be as well

Vader is my favourite character from my favourite movie being made in my favourite scale by my favourite brand.....why am I not ordering or itching to buy it

Hot Toys is capable of so much more, disappointed the helmet sculpt doesn't capture the screen look/shape of A New Hope, partly another reason i never picked up their stormtrooper the helmets just not quite right, somehow?

Yeah well i dont get that option, i have to buy one from either sideshow or ht if i want one. I passed on the sideshow version as it didnt please me so i waited so see what ht would do. So far ht version looks no better.

This is a pathetic showing from HT, how can they release so many amazing figures and expect us to accept this effort? Vader is the most iconic movie villain of all time, so they'd better try a lot harder before it's released.

I'm no Vader expert so I'm having a hard time seeing whats wrong with the face mask but that helmet needs some real work.

Come on HT, I want this for christmas.

Well, the issues with the face mask are minor. They seem to have gone for a more symmetrical mouth, but by doing that it almost looks like it's warped to the opposite side, instead of how it is on the prop, due to this the tusk tubes on the left side don't angle down as much as they should, which makes the mouth smaller. The top part of the cheeks, just beneath the eyes have a upward curve to it, while the real prop has an downward curve where it curves up out at the front cheek edges - you can see it on the side profile shot. And then there's the neck that curves differently and don't retreats back as far as it should, making it appear to be too much forward compared to the angle of the mask.

All these things are minor and even I can live with them. But the dome needs to be completely redone.

Yeah the problem is the dome is already way too short on top, so simply lowering it won't really solve much.

You'd be better off just ditching it entirely and getting an old Hasbro dome instead.

I wish I didn't pre-order any of these SW figures, at such a price I shouldn't be obligated with an NRD when the protoype changes constantly from bad to worse. "Can this deal get any worse?" No more pre-orders for me.

Same here, I started with Hot Toys just one year ago and finally I understood it's too risky. Not only with Hot Toys of course.

having to put an NRD down based on a prototype doesn't seem fair... i am still optimistic, but having put the cash out already, feeling a little cornered.

never forget, we are the ones who hold the power... we can change things through our own behavior. SS asking for an NRD may only result in massive return requests... has Hot Toys gone form "0 to 60" too quickly with the quality suffering because so? are they delivering the Vader we deserve? the Han we deserve? at these prices, do they assume too much (or too little) of us? send the unsatisfactory product back... demand refunds... let SS become a holding company for half assed made toys. it is in our hands.

I am wary of Pre-ordering anything from SSC anymore. HT's is not consistent, SSC is not consistent. These things are getting to expensive to just gamble. I think HT's has too much on their plate and quality is suffering. Thanks Iron Man.

Yeah that comp pic of TMG's does show the dome issue pretty clearly.
