I duno, unless this Vader comes out amazing i might just be happy staying with my sideshow vader out of scale and all. The only thing I'm gonna be wishing I had is the light up lightsaber. Which I can upgrade to

I here you! I have both SS Vader's . I did the Hasbro dome mod and upgraded the cape and robe to the infrigno version on the ANH Vader and I'm pretty happy with it. The ROTJ version is pretty good as well especially at the price point, you get more for less.

I think Sideshow Vader is a great figure. If someone already had it I wouldn't bother upgrading unless you wanted ANH Vader specifically ( not that HT looks that much like ANH Vader).

Haha, CG, you really hate this figure, hey? ;) Regardless what you think, it will handily beat SSC's Deluxe, which WILL make it the best mass produced 1:6 Vader out there. Maybe you'll like it better once in-hand shots come out. But supposing you don't, is it really that big a deal that you need to go on and on about it? There'll be another figure, CG!

To be honest, I'm only guessing, as I've never looked into Hurricane's custom (there's lots of options, so I'm assuming for a fully loaded version). All the characters I've been interested in or followed in the customs section (Beto and Rainman, primarily) have been $1k+, so I'm using that as the 'going rate'.

Yeah, but those $1k customs are fully created-from-scratch heads/paint, clothes and accessories, whereas my understanding is Hurricane's are existing parts that have been modded (somewhat heavily in the facemask.)

Hurricanes are very well priced and accurate.

Do you know how much for a full Vader? I always assumed it to be in the $300-350 range, but maybe I was wrong. But if true, that would put it within the range of the SSC DX and HT figures. And potentially more accurate (though yeah, let's judge the HT when it releases) albeit more "handmade."

Yeah, from Cap'n's comment it looks like I overestimated the price. Kind of curious now how much they go for.

Either way though for a mass produced figure the Hot Toys one is good. Maybe not the best ever but you can't really compare custom jobs to a mass produced figure. Obviously customizers take more time with each and every figure where a company like Hot Toys or Sideshow realistically can't do that.

Yep and I'm fine with that. I'm one of the few that seems to like this mask, though. Think it's a very cool iteration, even if not perfectly aligned with Vader's look in ANH. For me close is close enough on this figure.

Hmm... After getting Chewbacca and Han and posing them with my SSC Vader..... Vader is just way to big. Almost as tall as Chewbacca... actually the way I have Chewie posed SSC Vader is taller.... just unacceptable. This HT Vader figure is shorter than SSC Vader... right?

Also, when this ships, can someone take a picture of HT Vader with Chewbacca please? This will most likely make me buy it or pass on it depending on the height.... I like my SSC Vader, but I think it shows its age when posed next to these Hot Toys....

I believe my basic hurricane ANH was about $600 a few years back. Yes yes that is almost double a HT figure but if you want an accurate vader on your shelf it's more that worth it.

Yep, that's actually not too bad at all for a custom. So fully loaded nowadays may be around that $1k mark. I only have two customs (both Beto) and both around that range but well worth it, IMO. That said, I'll be sticking with mass produced stuff probably from here on out, just to keep the expenses down.

I would think you could start with the HT figure, sell off the head sculpt for $75 or something, then add a hurricane helmet and you're all set. For maybe $500 tops. This is assuming Hot Toys adjusted the height on Vader and he's not as tall as Chewie.

Basics now are at $300 , but that's no lights, no reveal and no cathode saber. But this thread is about the HT Vader which will be good.
