That's good value, an accurate Vader custom (though barebones) for the same price as the HT.

Mine will be under $200 fully finished and will be Kaiyodo accurate - which is currently better than HT or SSC (so far.)

The pricepoint was also a factor in me going down this road, plus concerns the HT may not turn out to be much of a step up on the SSC DX (which I'm not a big fan of.)

Yeah, I'm on the fence right now. I've wanted to put together a nice accurate Vader custom figure for ages, but I was hoping HT would deliver too.

The custom route sounds like it really does make the most sense these days.

I just picked up a sideshow vader reveal head as a companion piece to this guy (the stand with the disassembled vader head will look super cool next to him!)

Im curious about whether the Old anakin reveal head will fit onto the hot toys figure. I know its not episode 4 'canon' but i think it could be cool. What do people think?

Cheers

JR

Considering that this hasn't been released in Hong Kong yet, It is very possible most of us won't get this until around Christmas unless we import. I am just holding on to the small hope that the delay was due to changes made to the figure.

My final flex payment is November 5th, but I'm expecting a delay also:(

Its nuts how long these Star Wars figures have taken to reach us SSC buyers.

-Han and Chewbacca went up in September of 2014 and just began shipping this month (13 months)
-Vader went up in December and still hasn't shipped
-Obi-Wan went up February and began shipping this month (8 months)

Han and Chewie they basically swapped with the stormtroopers in terms of the production schedule. So it's not that crazy if you factor in that the Stormies came 4 months early. And it seems like Kenobi came a bit early too.

I am not certain I follow the logic on shipping dates. SS genuinely takes longer to get figures out and in less volume (in terms of Nbr of characters released) so most of us pleasantly surprised HT delivers in 6-10 mos.

I haven't looked vary seriously at getting Vader yet, mostly because I have the Sideshow version, and have used my budget recently on getting Han, Chewie, Ben, and have both Luke's, Leia, and sideshow C-3P0 on pre-order.

I haven't been unhappy with my Sideshow Vader, just as I'm not unhappy with my sideshow Boba Fett. If, I didn't already have them I may have preferred the HT ones if I was choosing between the two from scratch but not sure these are that much better to get after I already invested in Sideshow.

Still, a few things about HT Vader intrigues me...
First, the light up saber interests me more than I thought it would after getting HT Ben Kenobi. I originally thought this would just be a gimmick I wouldn't care about or ever want to use, but now that I've seen it work so well on one I kind of want them all to light up. I haven't looked much yet at what it would take to get a custom saber for my Sideshow Vader and/or my Bespin Luke. I'll have to explore who does this and what that kind of thing might cost.

Second, the cape and "robes", along with the "leather" body suit look to be tailored better. Not that the Sideshow ones are bad, but I do look forward to some side by side pictures when this starts shipping to people to see the difference.

The only thing that might bother me about the HT Vader are the fabric gloves. I thought the molded gloves of Sideshow's figure were great. So this is something again I hope to see more of once people start taking pictures and doing reviews after it ships.

Things I don't care that much about....
I don't care if the figure is slightly too tall. I'm fine with Sideshow's height and if the HT one is the same that's fine with me. Better too tall than too short. I also don't care that much about if the helmet has exact screen accurate proportions as long as it looks good passing the eye ball test from someone who has seen enough Star Wars to have a really good idea of what Vader looks like without ever examining the actual prop to the point of measuring anything. I also don't care about the breathing sound effect.

As far as customization goes...
Seems like much of the customization talk I have heard is centered around the helmet and height, two things I don't feel is enough of a problem to try to fix. However, I do wonder if I decide to pick this up, and if I also decide to keep the Sideshow one, if I will display both OR take the best parts off each to try to make one really nice Vader. I'm not sure how easy this would be, and don't want to mess around too much with trying to make HT and SS parts fit if they can't fit together without much hassle. I actually prefer the ESB look of Vader and so I wonder if it would be worth it to put SS light up control box (and belt if HT's doesn't light up) on the HT figure and put the robe under the shoulder armor like in ESB (using whichever armor, HT or SS, looks best)

Or... Maybe I should just hold off and wait to see what HT does with ESB Vader and keep enjoying my Sideshow one for now.

I don't have any Darth Vaders...but you brought up some interesting points about the HT Darth Vader that I haven't thought about. But I am still going to wait on Vader.
