I went the route where I figured I would get most/all my $$ back and sold my Deluxe Vader alone over the summer for $140 and then sold off the other main parts after that. Actually just finally sold the remaining pieces today--Anakin sculpt, mask, and the stand for the mask. Thought of keeping the Anakin sculpt to go with the HT Vader since it's not bad but I never really displayed Vader like that anyhow. I'm sure I came out a bit ahead but it's obviously more of a nuisance to mail out 5 packages instead of one.

Due to space I knew I couldn't have two Vaders at the moment and was never that thrilled with the SS Vader even though in various poses/angles he looked awesome on the shelf.

Bring on this Vader. :rock

Was never even sold on this one until they unveiled the new dome.

Oh there's a lot of good ones. Jabba, yes, and Bib, and Boushh ... IG-88... Bossk... Cody... even Hammerhead.

Figures without a human face have a good chance of standing up to the pressures of contemporary demands.

Some Sideshow love before the forum slides into obscurity... :wink1:

As for HT Vader, haven't ordered yet. Gambling against selling out while waiting for more RPs to accumulate (to off-set the fact that I could've ordered him cheaper before selling out in the UK).

And what's wrong with those!!! :pfft: .... :lol I know they're very dated compared to this guy, but unfortunately I have a problem in that if it's a Darth Vader collectible I feel the compulsion to buy it... So I still have those 3 with every intention of keeping them, and I even have all the crappy Hasbro versions too. :rotfl
I'm still hoping eventually I'll find the ROTS Medi and 2.0 Medi for cheap enough to add those as well, then my 1/6 Vader collection will be complete. I have my original vintage 12" vader from when I was a wee kid too, and in pretty good shape too, but unfortunately missing his Light Saber.. I did miss the Gentle Giant retro vintage 12", no way I'm paying the price he goes for now. I was hopeing to get him cheaper than the $80 but I lost on that gamble... One day. There is a redo in a new 3 pack, maybe I'll find him loose. I'm a patient collector. Next will be SS McQuarie 1/6 Vader... :yess: I also have I think every 3 3/4" and 6" to date too... Even the obscure 8" Real Action Heroes kit Tomy did... And many many other Vader collectibles, statues, movie replicas.... I think I need to seek counseling. :cuckoo:

I agree...I've got almost every important figural Vader to date, but I still don't have the medi 2.0 talking version, sideshow dio with Luke Bespin, and I'm waiting on hot toys...apparently there's a Disney statue that was just released too, but it's all bronze colored or something, and I just felt it was overpriced ... I don't typically get monochromatic versions of Vader unless it's all black...

Although, yes...aftermarket prices get silly, and will likely be for a little while due to new Star Wars hype...when I think about it there are only two items I've ever looked for that are truly some combination of hard-to-find, crazy-expensive, or disappeared; these Hot Toys figures? I don't see them ever truly being "rare". Just over-priced, but I suppose that's bad enough.

I'd rather order from an official retailer, and Sideshow is the only one on my radar now with pre-orders available, in case there's a defect with the figure when it arrives.

There's always that. I guess I've been lucky up to now, but ordering with SSC does carry that "insurance policy" with it.

Ugh. That nose insert (second to last photo). Only thing that still bugs me. :lol

Really hope there's a November code coming, wanna get this guy ordered already.

There's quite a few living in their boxes in the attic. The funny thing with them is that even though they're not displayable as intended, they often have good parts on them - gun belts, guns, clothing, gear - such as the Rebel Commandos.

I agree that most of the Sideshow figures have some nice accessories. Some are so nice that you can kitbash a relatively inexpensive figure that is displayable with the Sideshow gear. For instance, I put together a cheap Bespin luke with Sideshow accessories, a KO slim TT, Hot Toys pants/shirt, and a Hoth Luke head.

I read a funny thing about Sideshow's "insurance policy" yesterday while dipping into the HT 1/4 Boba Fett thread.

I'm sure rubio won't mind me re-posting this here, as it is really a public service warning:

So, I had an interesting experience...

As I mentioned in my review, my left arm couldn't support it's own weight, and was quite loose.

Figuring it might be a loose screw or something, I disrobed the figure:

Clearly, the body was damaged in the Hot Toys factory. The screw looked fine, but had been over-tightened, snapping the female end. There's some kind of 'gasket' between the two pieces that comprise the shoulder, and it was MANGLED:

Damn. So I take some pictures and email Sideshow, asking for JUST a replacement body (I didn't want to have to ship back that huge box).

The response I received from Sideshow was...interesting:

Right after I received the email, I called the guy. We spoke for awhile and he was very open and informative, but I had no idea whatsoever that disrobing a figure is considering 'altering' it. When I received my Scout Trooper, one leg was longer than the other. I disrobed him so that I could see what the problem was. I took pictures of the bare body so that Sideshow could see the defect. I contacted them and they sent me a shipping label to send it back, no questions asked at all (I didn't end up sending it back - I didn't want to take a chance that I would get a replacement with some other defect).

I'm certainly happy that they're going to replace it, but I don't like the implication. I'm pretty handy with customizing/modifying, and definitely very careful with these figures. It would have been so much easier to simply disrobe the figure and see if it was just a loose screw, and if it was, tighten it up and move on.

It's a scary thought that undressing a figure to see what the problem might be could invalidate your warranty. :panic:

Excellent work James. I followed your lead and matte blacked the chest armour, weathered the belt and chest boxes and also removed the tunic wire.
