Got my copy yesterday. Out of the box, so many things bugged me. Took forever to place those small batteries into the belt boxes, and then put the two boxes closer to the buckle. And then it is so hard also to switch out the arm coz the sleeve is way too tight that I cannot find any gripping spot to pull the elbow out. Finally got the arm out and put the light up arm in and then realized I forgot the glove!!! Now I kinda see why those guys in that video just gave up and review a completely messed up set up, coz at that point, I almost wanna give up too! So after all that, I did not even bother powering up the voice box. No way I am going to go through with completely stripping this to just make him "speak" for 15 minutes. Took some getting used to so I can feel out where the light saber button is under the glove to turn it on and off. But honestly, after all the futzing, this one is probably the best looking Darth Vader out there!
Here's a quick pic, and gonna take some more pics when I get the chance.

:lol I did the same thing. I found one trick with this figure is to do things piecemeal so as to not get overly frustrated by it. The first day I just set it up and only did the belt batteries. Enjoyed the figure for a few days on its own before messing around with the saber arm. Don't think I'll ever mess around with the sound feature.

Just setting up the voice once was enough for me, but worth it, just to hear the phrases (the breathing was a tad too fast: I guess Vader was recorded just after he ran a few laps on the Sith-o-matic tread mill.)

I'm guessing everyone would recommend this more over the sideshow one coming out later in the year?

Yes, I just slowly bent the little hooks on the boxes outward so they could slide over that Velcro to get closer to the belt buckle.

Also dulled the chest armor so it has a more flat sheen and looks more gunmetal.

Removed robe wires -- although they are still difficult to get to hang nicely, even with water-treatment.

Tried to wiggle the dome off -- and there's some give -- but I just didn't want to press my luck.

Lookin' Good!!!

Very nice, Wor! May I ask what you did to reduce the sheen on the chest armor? Want to do the same!

Thanks! Despite the electronics issue, GREAT figure! Was fun to finally work on him and Luke today.

Mixed black and gray acrylic into a dark gunmetal color, then "wet-washed" a coat on... and with a dry brush wiped it back and forth so that only a thin layer dried on. I actually tried straight drybrushing first but the paint got chunky and hid all sheen, so I wiped it off and went with a wet coat (with the brushing to remove most of it). Hope that's clear.

I left the back of the armor alone, and the acrylic comes off very easily if I ever want the original armor back. I just did the part that shows and the front side of the shoulder bells in case I ever flip the cape back over his shoulder.

Mine will be here Tuesday. I'm praying the belt comes off easy. All I want is to move the boxes. That's it.

Ok, very nice - thanks for the heads up!!!! I am gonna try that myself....

Ok, so here is my 'solution' for the Sound FX:

I ended up buying extra parts from TA, so I still have a MINT Vader. Gorilla Tape is just to make sure the hole I made thru the vest, and body suits do not widen. Its not a noble solution, but I am happy with the 'easy access' backdoor as it were

I was trying to compare this to the Sideshow version coming out and all I could notice was that the triangular grill part of the helmet is bigger on the ROTJ Sideshow version. Is that one of the difference and is that accurate to that movie? If anyone knows other differences that'd be awesome. Though I gotta say that the Hot Toys one looks damn fantastic!

The grill size change during the Empire Strikes Back movie. For what I know, changes on Vader costume was done Empire. Not sure what was change in Jedi.

Good work again wor gar!

Might try doing the chest coloring. I only have the tamiya weathering but that might stick on the robe if left overtime.

I don't know much about paint beyond acrylic but you definitely want to use water-soluble paint. Even acrylic can get "tacky" over time. But it will really only effect the inner robe.

So, what does HT use for their paint, then? I've never seen their stuff tacky over time? Wor-Gar: ya just made me go, 'hmmm' about paints!!!!

HT uses Chinese paint.

How do I know what they use. :lol But they seal it of course. I was talking about unsealed paint. I wouldn't seal the new paint on Vader's armor because then you can't get it off if you ever need to go back to original.

But don't freak -- 'tacky' doesn't mean its gonna peel up into a goo over time.
