1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Qui-Gon Jinn

While we await some fresh convention shots of HT Qui-Gon, I got this SSC Padawan Kenobi out for another look...



I'd like to see HT tackle this version of Kenobi. As much as I still like this figure (especially the way the lightsaber looks when lit), the base body is literally falling apart. Joints are brittle, upper body just flops over. Very disappointing...makes me afraid to touch or try to repose any of those old SSC figures. Having said that, I can still manage to get a good shot or two out of it.



C'mon HT...produce Jinn's padawan!

Well for the Prequels Jedi we've already seen Anakin, Obiwan, Yoda, and now Qui-Gon Jinn, i think Mace Windu and Padawan Ep2 Ani not that far behind.

As for the Sith we've got Emperor Palpatine, Sith Ani, Darth Maul and Count Dooku and of course different versions of Darth Vader... was hoping to see Darth Sidious Ep3 and Grievous though.

I would def get it to upgrade my ssc version. That one was decent at the time but after a while the lack of likeness got to me. I did like clothing though.

TPM Padawan Obi-Wan is only a matter of time. Once the Episode III version is released it’ll be time to move on to the next most iconic versions of Obi-Wan (TPM) and Anakin (AOTC). Could see both being shown at SDCC.

Really hoping we see Mace, Palp/Sidious, and Grievous next. So hype to get RotS Kenobi. I'm on the fence about Yoda atm.

Funny, Anakin might be the main character of the PT but Qui-Gon is the chief protagonist of TPM. It never really occurs to me to want a Li'l Ani figure.

(Although I have the Hasbro one...)

Yeah never was much of a fan of that AOTC hair.. TPM version ftw.

Yeah I'm getting RotS Obi-Wan and would get a TPM Obi-Wan, but wouldn't get AotC figures; honestly very few. I don't hate the movie, just prefer the other looks.

I do like obi-wan's look in AotC, that long hair and beard look. Honestly Ewan really started falling into the role of obi-wan with the 2nd film, then perfected it with the 3rd film. Not sure how many obi-wan's i'll get though.

While I hate TPM (and all prequel movies nearly equally) QGJ is one of my favorite SW characters. What sealed it for me was his talk of following the will of the "living force" and that pivotal moment when he quietly meditates as he waits for the power curtains between himself and Maul to drop. Loved that. I owned the SS QGJ figure briefly but was so underwhelmed I sold it shortly after buying. I've been on the fence about this since the release of the images but am probably pulling the trigger. Thankfully I don't see this reminding me so much of TPM as it will a great character and actor. This will be my first HT SW figure. Glad they went back for this one. And while others have posted a desire for a more active looking expression I find it portrays the character's calmness shown throughout the movie. I would have liked a closed eye sculpt just to recreate the meditation moment.

QGJ is definitely one of the only bright spots of TPM.

I find it ironic that QGJ was not allowed on the council due to his beliefs/jedi code he lived by and yet he was better jedi than most on the council.

I love how Liam Neeson just sort of effortlessly glides through the movie, as if he doesn't have a care in the world.

Exactly. His death allowed the fall of the Jedi who had their midichlorian filled heads up their collective arses.

It got another mention (and was redeemed IMHO) in ROTS. Who knows, it might get brought up again in TROS.
