those long saber short tray BS

:lol I have all those.

Not counting the vintage, the only figure that I remember was big bucks back in the day was a colored-vest Darth Maul Tatooine. I think that was $300 back then and I found one at TRU on a back peg. Could be worthless now, have no idea. Most of the stuff that was good money is worthless now that no one cares about the variants and .00 and .01 cards.

I have a telescoping Vader 1977 that's my pride and joy -- also happens to be the first Star Wars toy I ever bought long, long ago.

hell that`s the best one keep that burn the rest. :lol but serious I forgot about that darth maul and those stupid 00.01 card number crap or how about those freeze frames with the misspelling of saltmare or how ever it was pronounced on the backs of those cards and of course those hollow gram stickers or no sticker blah blah blah.

Oh yeah, Salt Maree... :lol

It was fun for a while to hunt these things. Or to send away for Bomarr Monk or that two-pack with the big fuzzy white guy and that little bat-rat.

I would trip out going through all those boxes, so many memories of "the find". I just want to be free of it all.

I think I still got that Bomarr Monk almost throw him away when I was cleaning out my cross space and happen to look inside the box and said oh my I forgot I had him or the froot loops send away han solo or lays obi-wan ghost which isn`t with **** today.

Last year when I committed to collecting Hot Toys after years of just looking at pictures of them, I sold a big chunk of my other figures. Included 3 3/4" Star Wars, 6" Black Series, Marvel Legends, etc., etc. It's definitely time consuming listing them on eBay and Craigslist. I made a ton of money back but still at a loss.

I never expected getting variants for Hot Toys like those Hasbro 3.75" figures. ROTJ Luke plus Endor Luke? Yikes. I have this one on PO, but not sure about the Endor Version.

Yeah, you can't treat the high-end hobby the same way you do the lower end stuff. Variants should be a thing to look into if you really like the character. Not saying people shouldn't get variants, just be smart about it and don't let your OCD drive your purchases. Maybe a smidge, lol.

:exactly:

After the excitement of R1, I really had an itchy finger to hit that PO button on R1 Vader.

7 months later and already having ANH Vader, I'm extremely glad I didn't. Not because the figure is poor, but because I was judicious. I look at my SW collection and he just doesn't fit in it.

I sold my Sideshow Vader to get the Rogue One Vader. Don't feel I need another one either, as he's pretty much a damn good figure. Not impressed with the shin guards, but oh well.

I also got the recent Sideshow Darth Maul, but I kept the old one because it was one of my first 1/6 figures, if not the first. Plus, I needed his cloak. :lol

Mindlessly buying these kinds of figures can get you into trouble. I have to plan out and map purchases and I'm always boxing up things as I get older. Just a few years ago, my displayed collection was more smaller scale stuff. Now, I don't even think it's half of that.

This Luke was going to be THE Luke in the collection. That was always the plan. I already got Vader out of the way, regardless if I wanted a ROTJ version or not.

Sometimes there's things that jump out of left field though. I know a lot of people are excited about the new Hot Toys Anakin and I may cancel something to grab him myself, in all honesty. But I won't touch the Hot Toys Darth Maul, if that's ever a thing.

Yes. Unfortunately, I love Hoth. So it ruins my whole stick-with-character-only plan. And I love the orange pilot. See...? It all goes sideways.

This whole discussion was like the inside of my mind with this comment as the moment it became freaky. It's the eternal dilemma. You want to limit it to the most important character arc outfit from each film... But the character arc outfit in ESB is nowhere near as cool as the pilot and Hoth outfits.

Yup. And then it also comes down to which figure figure is the most well executed. I'm sure tons of people felt ANH Leia was the one to have due to the brilliant head sculpt. But then Hoth is revealed and it has almost just as nice a sculpt but outfit is better executed.

I'm sure people will jump all over a Bespin Han or even ROTJ Han if they really nail the Ford head sculpt finally.

So as far as wanting the Endor head/poncho and not being able to display it, yeah I'm fine with that. I'd switch the look now and then, it's what I do. I don't have that much space and can't justify basically the same figure twice just for display. I'd just jump around on outfits/looks. It's how I do most of my toys with alternate heads or lots of accessories.

Anyway, I GET IT, HT wants that money and this is is good for those who display more than 1 look at a time. I just wish there was an option is all. I'm still buying this. I can't wait, I think it looks great.

I agree with you guys. I used to collect baseball cards a few years back and there are so many card variations, autograph variations, etc...it wore me out because I couldn't keep up with my favorite player, Mike Trout, and the 15-20 or more Topps products he was in yearly.. I learned though that variations rarely sell as well as the "main choice." In the baseball world, that would be rookies, rookie autos, prospect autos, base Topps. High end variations produced years later never really increase much in value, but they sure can suck away your cash.

Same for HT. Main characters, from big films, in big scenes, will almost always hold value more than the tons of HT variations and side characters.

You can really build a nice collection without having to collect everything. Nothing against the completist, but this is my perspective.

I may have to go "Canada Clone" on this Jedi Luke thing. To have all his looks I'd need to display:

Hahaha !!! The ultimate Luke collection !!!

Great discussion guys. I've really only just got into the collecting game. So I've got no "baggage" as such.

I found making a list of characters based on space in the new displays I am working on and importance helped me know what I did and didn't want. Certainly helps rationalizing those "maybe" figures. Sure some on the list are based on "hope" that HT will make them. But im sure they'll get to the remaining main characters like Lando etc.

Certainly a cool time with such good figures and forums like this to hang out a bit with other freaks.
