I think he looks fantastic in that pic, very much the ANH look aside from shoulder armor. HT is pretty faithful but way too shiny and stylised..

His codpiece is way stuffed...like a doughnut...or one of those soft vinyl toilet seats....but I am, happy to see that he doesn't suffer from football padding syndrome

That's all well and good, but I am definitely not spending another $40 or $50 on a lightsaber again, only to have Hot Toys realize that "oh ****, these fans are right, it really does do justice to the figure to add a lightsaber."

And this is the dark lord of the Sith we're talking about here. Regardless of whether he actually ignites that damn saber in the film... his ass is worthy of the display option.

I am not normally the type that gets rid of figures to get the latest and the greatest. The only reason I got the Days of Future Past Wolverine was because my Medicom X3 Wolvie crapped out on me. But with the Sideshow Vader and the old Sideshow Maul, I feel I need to update them at this point. But I'd rather not get rid of a perfectly good Vader and his lightsaber, when his replacement is going to be gimped.

It was actually $20 lol. I figured that's how much it would be if a freak made some on here too. If the RO Vader does get a blade, then at least I upgraded my Deluxe Vader's blade. But regardless, I completely understand your point. I only bought it so I would be completely happy with my purchase. And whoever decided this Vader figure is bladeless is an *******. Even the cheap $8 figs come with one.. But like everyone here, I'm hoping it's just a marketing tactic and it will be added in after the movie. It's not to be released in HK until January. There's time. I really do believe Vader is going to kill everyone at the end of the movie, including Krennic.

My brother send me this today. A pic of rogue one vader from the movie.

I think the release without the light saber is all part of marketing the hype train. They want people to talk about it......and what are we doing here in this forum....talking about it.
They'll announce the light saber just before release when everyone is at the peak of their hypedness and all the undecided and fence sitters will buy it. It'll be a mega sales tactic.
Hot Toys have been doing this for a bit. They know how sales and marketing works.

Or....Hot Toys is intentionally not releasing this with a blade to force you to chose between this at $250 or the ANH version that's $300 and has the damn blade. The ANH Vaders are still instock everywhere and it makes sense. :lol

HT is releasing Luke from the end of TFA that has really nothing in accessories but a rock base at $230. They could've thrown in Luke's lightsaber and blade that Rey hands him and include a couple of hands that can hold the thing, it may not have been in the movie but would make this figure even more desirable for people to buy. Yet HT is being faithful to the source material by not including it. The same might be the case with R1 Vader's lightsaber blade.

Fair comment. But I really hope you're wrong :)

Vader with no lightsaber in the middle of a climatic end would be a major downer.

The non inclusion of an ignited saber with this figure sort of feels like the non inclusion of a Kryptonite spear with the BvS Armored Batman, but yet at the same time, very different. I can see how including the Kryptonite spear with the figure and advertising it that way before the movie hits theaters would definitely be a spoiler. However, I don't think including a lit lightsaber with a Star Wars figure who's known to wield a lightsaber indicating that he uses it in the film, would necessarily be a spoiler. It's Star Wars; I think lightsabers are to be expected. The fact that he doesn't include one raises more eyebrows. Not to mention that a simple red orange lightsaber blade (one that they already have on hand) is way easier to produce than having to fashion an accessory such as the Kryptonite spear.

A few theories are that it would be spoilerish or it might make people think Vader uses his saber in R1 when he doesn't.

There are going to be lightsabers used in a Star Wars film. :lecture :lol

No as someone mentioned though, I think the real spoiler would be to find out that he doesn't use it at all.

It's not like there will be a Rogue One "battling version" Vader with weathered robes and armor plus exclusive lit saber. (Hmmm, after typing that I'm not so sure we won't see that version)

You underestimate the power of HT. :lol

Hmm, judging by this it looks like HT has made a pretty faithful recreation of the new Vader. Although I gotta say, it's not the most flattering angle or image and I hope he looks a lot cooler in the movie...

Looks pretty close to me. The armor looks to be a bit duller than what the figure represents, but as you said, it's not the most flattering angle. The cod piece on this figure looks accurate to how it looks on this version of Vader. One thing I think people are doing is comparing the figure to how he looks in the OT and pointing out the "flaws" on this figure. This figure isn't intended to be a representation of any of his looks in the OT; it's based on how he will presumably look in R1. Even if one dislikes how the cod piece looks, that doesn't necessarily mean it's inaccurate based on how it'll look in R1.

Hard to make a judgement - that pic is a poster from the same company that did the earlier RO Vader poster - these are licensed, but not directly from Disney.

The suit really doesn't look very ANH, kind of an amalgam of ANH, ESB and ROTS. Apart from the non-ANH inner robe placement, the chest armor and helmet in particular don't look ANH (other than the small chin triangle.)

My guess is that if this is how Vader appears in RO, it's an "idealized" Vader like what they've done with the RO stormie... basically saying that "the look of them in ANH was due to the limitations of budget and era, and this is how they should have looked."

But man, that new codpiece.... looks like it may be a flotation device, or a hemorrhoid cushion for aged Anakin.:lol

And the brushed metal buckle part is not even close to squared within the buckle (yes, it's a hair off square in ANH, but nothing close to that 15 degree angle.) Nice eye for detail, poster guys.:slap:lol

Yeah I passed on ANH Vader for the hopes they would announce this. HT didn't disappoint. It looks stellar. I'm going to say wait on the lightsaber blade until after the movie releases. If they don't announce it after, then we can pick up our pitchforks and torches.
