I think the Vader action sequences in the comics are so over the top (he takes down multiple space ships and seemingly hundreds of soldiers in a single battle), but I won't be disappointed if Vader is seen in some kind of limited action. This seems to be a different type of movie, war movie, more of an action movie, so it seems like it would fit in a way it wouldn't have in the OT.

Don't need flips and jumping off the walls like in the PT. One of the best things about having the man in the actual suit is that it actually seemed like he was this big lumbering physical presence and that's part of what made him so intimidating. Sort of like the horror movie villain who slowly walks toward the scared running away teenager. No hurry, just steady as she goes until the prey is cornered and the saber comes out. :lsvader

Couldn't disagree more.

Vader isn't a General or an Admiral. He's Palpatine's dragon. Combat is part of his job. There's a reason why Vader physically goes everywhere in ESB. He could have just sent for Luke every time and waited up on the Executor.
There's a reason Force users pack lightsabers.

It was Vader himself that hunted down and killed all the Jedi left in the galaxy. People who just want him to stand on the bridge barking orders and chatting up the emperor have no clue to his character. He has a personal vendetta against the Jedi and the rebellion that supports them. He jumps at the opportunity to hunt them down and would lead the battle if he found out the rebels stole the death star plans. It's part of the reason why all the stormtroopers respect him so much. He would lead from the front lines right alongside them, not from a remote location in total safety. If Vader doesn't get a chance to stretch his legs and barrel through a battalion of rebels, then this movie was a wasted opportunity. I'm not saying do front flips all over the place, but let him me a force of nature that sweeps across a battlefield.

you completely missed the point of my post. completely. did you even try? re-read it again. the point is... I want to be a samurai. *kung fu air chops*

I was just being sarcastic. Typical Aussie trait.

To be honest I like your way of thinking, and the *kung fu air chops* :clap

This.

ROGUE ONE can finally show the monster that was Vader in his prime, before he learned he had a son and began his ascent to the Light.

One of my favorite moments of the [canon] Star Wars comic:

"A powerful Sith you will become." -Palpatine

Indeed he did.

The reality of an actor in an awkward suit often undermines the "badassness" people envision when they read about Vader's antics.

The physical Vader in the movies -- even in ESB -- looks awkward at times when he's fighting Luke or stomping around Hoth. The 'idea' of "Vader the dragon" is cool, but the reality of seeing it realized on film could be disappointing. Like when we finally saw how Yoda really fights.

For me Yoda's fighting was only problematic in AOTC.

In ROTS they got it right and nailed the expressions. They made his moves fast - yet subtle.

I'm with you guys (or girls). I'd love to see Vader in some scenes like the Donny Yen style fight with the Storm Troopers. But his time with 5-6 no make that 15-20 Rebels coming at him from all sides and he takes them out in one awesome display of power.

Although I also think the numbers in the Vader Down were potentially a bit too many, it's widely thought of as the best part of the Vader comics. So I hope that didn't go unnoticed by Lucasfilm.

Man, how much longer till this movie comes out ? I just want to see it !

Yeah, that is a bit of a risk. I remember hearing the during test screenings of Jaws there was a lot of laughter during some of the shark scenes so they cut it back and it worked much better and made Jaws's appearances more dramatic.

Almost every lightsaber battle in the PT was over the top except for the Maul ones. Plus Yoda's size probably makes for an odd-looking fight to begin with so that seemed doomed from the beginning.

I agree with the Jaws analogy. He shouldn't appear at all until the end of act 2 when Krennic ultimately fails, only being mentioned prior to this, and then completely dominate the rest of the film to its conclusion. We would be anticipating when he enters, and then his scenes would have so much weight. Damn I can't wait for this movie.

My precise sentiments as well.

No disrespect but I pray you comic/EU guys do not get your wish.

The last thing I want to see is Star Wars "Marvel-ized" with a CGI Vader battling like an unstoppable Captain America.

I'm all for Vader being part of an epic, badass action sequence in Rogue One, as long as they don't have him jumping around and doing a bunch of quick and flashy prequel-style moves. He should still be using the lightsaber much like we saw in the OT, and relying just as much on the Force to gain the upper hand.

And his fighting style in Rebels seemed to hold pretty true to that as well I thought.

:exactly:

Though I'd personally be fine if he doesn't use the saber (I hope he does) and they focus more on him using the Force against his adversaries.
