Sneak peak Vader's first sabre, kept under wraps because it points to a massive spoiler about Vader's sexuality:
After seeing Godzilla, I trust Gareth Edwards with Vader. He did Godzilla himself justice without making it over the top. I honestly think he's a great director.
Agreed on all that. He's not doing the Godzilla sequel anymore which is definitely disappointing. I'm a little nervous for that too. I watched the panel for Han Solo from I think either comic-con or celebration and I was like ehhhh I don't know about this. I'm surprised Disney greenlighted a young Han Solo movie as the second spinoff instead of something else, especially after what happened in Force Awakens. I honestly would've way rather seen Ewan McGregor return for an Obi-Wan spinoff.Yeah, Edwards is an excellent filmmaker. I was really happy when they announced he was helming ROGUE ONE.
Its the HAN SOLO movie I'm worried about.
Exactly. Even if it's decent it almost feels like it might be the jump the shark moment as it feels like it opens the doors for reboots and younger versions of our classic heroes. The universe is so large that it'd be a shame if they go down that type of path. I even feel like the first spin-off might have made more sense after Episode VIII since we were just introduced to the new trilogy characters. Obi-Wan movie needs to happen though. McGregor deserves a sold Star Wars movie.Agreed on all that. He's not doing the Godzilla sequel anymore which is definitely disappointing. I'm a little nervous for that too. This.
ROGUE ONE can finally show the monster that was Vader in his prime, before he learned he had a son and began his ascent to the Light.
There's a very good chance he won't use his saber in the film.
Remember this is in no way a Vader film, we have 3 of those already.
I promise you Vader is barely in this film, only showing up at the very end to assess WTF just happened, to pick up the pieces, and start the hunt for the Death Star Plans.
That doesn't stop Disney form using him as a marketing tool for the film though.

I think the producers are playing down vaders role in the movie. He may be used sparingly which will heighten the impact when he does appear but i can't see them casting such a physical performer/kickboxing champ in the role just to have him turn up for a brief scene at the end of the movie...
Exactly.
Why get a 6'7" kickboxer if Vader's just gonna stand around during his scenes?

When Wielding was announced I pretty much took it as confirmation of Vader's role being a physical one. I wanna see him attack the rebels and brutally dispatch them. Force chokes, throwing the lightsaber, beating a few of them to death...In the end just Vader remains while dozens of rebels lay dead on the ground.
Because he has the correct build and imposing physical presence/grace a combat athlete would bring to a role defined by body-language, movement, stance and stature?
I just hope James Earl Jones's voice performance is less mellow than what he did in Rebels....I know he's getting up there in years and am concerned he doesn't have that fire that younger men have.
Very true. Hope it doesn't look like a cosplayer. So, I am glad they got a big dude. That's is good, but does my concern - and this is nothing against the new guy at all - but Prowse had one helluva body language as Vader, that it'll be hard to replicate. Prowse was vader due to that, IMO.
