It could possibly be that they put this out there just to see how much interest there would be in it, whereas with Batman DX the interest is already there. Not that there wouldn't be interest, but with the Wolverine movie getting so much negativity, maybe they felt there wouldn't be as much interest in this verison of Wolverine. The prototype could've been made before the movie actually came out.

Please stop writing in brown text, I may not be the only one whose eyes hurt from trying to read it.

It could also be an experiment of some kind on their part.

I saw that toys2.net has this on pre-order. Was shocked because normally a "big" release is on their main page. However when you browse the Hot Toys section they have the same prototype picture and a short description. For those of us (like me) hoping for an alternate head, bone claws, etc ... looks like we're all out of luck :(

Of course things can change, but here is what is listed:

Pre-order: available in 4 Qtr 2009

The Wolverine 12 inch Figure features:

Newly developed Hot Toys hirsute muscular figure body with over 30 points of articulation Authentic likeness of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

- Jacket
- Undershirt
- Shirt
- Jeans
- Boots
- Detailed belt
- Dog tags
- Two sets of interchangeable hands
- Figure base with Wolverine nameplate and film logo

For the hands I am assuming with and without claws.

What shocked me the most - A price tag of $169.99. Now I realise that Iron Man and some of the new Hot Toys releases (ie. Watchmen Spectre) are climbing in price but I am not sure how they are justifying this price point.

I mean there is no "light up" feature with wolverine. He doesn't have rooted hair and not even an alternate head? Apparently the "detailed belt" warrants the jack up in price of $20 to $25 more than other releases like Terminator Marcus and Resident Evil Wesker.

I will still probably get it - but damn I do sure feel like I am being milked here. It's almost like Hot Toys said "Let's release a bare bones Wolverine and charge extra for it because ... well what the hell ... it's Wolverine and it will sell like hot cakes".

Boo! I am willing to pay $170 if you give me two heads and bone + metal claws. Or even better - Origins Wolverine plus a bonus of his X-men movie suit or comic yellow/brown suit.

Authentic Jackman likeness my ass

Okay before people start doing this:

Licensing has a lot to do with it. Not to mention that this figure also has:

Add the cost of licensing from Marvel Films and 20th Century Fox (which is a different entity than Marvel Studios in charge of Iron Man), add in the cost of the new body and you've got your price hike without batting an eye. I would easily believe that this license is higher than a video game cost or even Terminator. Remember the hike when SSC went from the Buck to the Pro? Same thing. They introduce a new body that is specially made for this figure and they've got to recoup, now if this figure sells and they do other Wolverine figures or even figures that use this body we won't see more of a price hike but if not then the next figure that has this will have a higher cost to offset the loss.

thats what i think the price is so high. new body and the license fee

That's certainly possible, but still at the price point we had better get a spot on likeness of Jackman. Unfortunately we don't. As such, I can't justify the cost for what is currently a sub-par figure.

at that price, you guys need to buy Marvel statues...:rock

I dunno.......think, personally, a scaled Martian would be more interesting on my shelf than this, esp if the sculpt remains like this.

lol@ at the people that think it's actually gonna look exactly like that pic in hand.

Oh ye of little faith.

Remember the Rocky proto. (jus sayin)

A big assumption they have the rights to Hugh's likeness. Based on that assumption, I agree a better sculpt is forthcoming. When the sculpt is complete more pics will be posted showing off the new body justifying the price.

Beyond the hefty price tag (for what you get) and a subpar proto pic, HT has been stingy regarding information on the line. Yet Terminator Salvation has 7 figs while little is known about either Watchmen or Wolverine.

I am guessing it has something to due with licensing rights? It seems when they have a green light the line is announced with proto's and when they hit a snag the line is rather quite.

Then when they reveal this information and show off a better sculpt I'll reconsider ordering. But based off of this preview pic and at that price it is a pass.

well i hope they take their time with it and don't try to rush it plus it would be better for if they pushed it till january ha ha

I am sure there back at the drawing board with the Headsculpt.
You know Hot Toys can't be 100% happy when there's still no Wolverine section on there website.
