Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Yeah it's a piece of shrapnel but it looks like a friggin horn

I wonder where he got it

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Exactly :goodpost:

Toughest warriors in most stories are ugly and beat up as hell, at some point in their lives at least, but they're ALIVE, they've survived their respective journies, and BB has been looking pretty long enough, it's time they beat him up with the ugly stick.

Great post my friend. Reminds me of a line from one of my favorite movies "the only thing you CAN assume about a broken down old man is that he's a survivor".

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Good to see I am not the only one as excited for these games. I also agree with your observations about the two characters.

I think more people are interested, they're just not speaking up, lol. This isn't an easy thread to waltz into I don't think. MGS is complex though, it's to be expected. I's unavoidable for Big Boss and Solid Snake to be so similar, since they are both lead characters of the same franchise. I also think Kojima has made sure create similarities and connections between the characters. It's better than that whinny brat Liquid, talk about having a complex!

Well it's not literally a horn. I'm not bothered by the shrapnel and mechanical arm, it's more than plausible that someone with Boss's combat experience would have a ****load of combat injuries.

Exactly. When you're a soldier, if you keep fighting, eventually you're going to get messed up somehow. It's inevitable, no one is that lucky. At least not in the kind of world that is MGS. Plus everything going on with Boss is believeable. He's got shrapnel in his head, Tony Stark has it in his chest, what's the difference? At least Boss wear's his with style. He's not worried about it going into his brain, he tells it to stay put b/c he's the Boss! Okay.. so anyway. The "demons" are obviously the people with telepathic powers, at least that is what I assume the guy who controls fire is. It makes sense given Psycho Mantis, as well as the PM like character that appears in the trailer.

WOW................................ I'm all for combat injuries - facial scars and whatever else. But, this just looks ridiculous.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I just watched the trailer and gameplay again. I feel like doing it again everyday, haha. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be one of the best MGS games ever. It may even be the best if you consider every individual aspect of it. It's going off like crazy. I love that Big Boss is messed up, it adds so much to the story and the game. I hate to say it, but were Kojima has been taking the MGS story, it really looks like both Big Boss and Solid Snake are tragic, misguided heroes. Neither one of them is a villain, and their shared fate is tragedy. Neither one is to blame. They really are more interesting as a pair, when you look at how their stories seem to compare and differ. How Big Boss pulls all of this off is going to be amazing to see.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. I still despise the way that Solid Snake's accomplishments were negated in MGS 4. The Patriots effectively used him as the monkey wrench in Big Boss's, Liquid's and Solidus's plans. To think, that if Solid Snake had just stayed at home, drinking beer and taking care of his dogs, instead of interfering in Shadow Moses and/or The Big Shell, the world would have been saved by one of Big Boss's other sons (or Ocelot).

It really is tricky. Just like real politics, it's a slippery slope. I think Solid Snake was used exactly as you said, and really as an escape Goat. There are a lot of questions when it comes to Solid, I think he's a tough character to figure out. I think he was controlled very well, because by this point people knew how to manipulate him. Where they failed with Big Boss, they succeeded with Solid. However, it's not all Solid and the Patriot's fault. Liquid and Solidus' I think both went about their plans in crazy way that pushed Solid to react like he did. At least Liquid did. I think had Liquid approached Solid and cut that crap Solid probably would have joined him. Then again, for all we know, both Liquid, Solid, and Solidus could have had some sort of genetic programming we haven't been told about. I think in any case, their genetic tampering made it easier for the Patriots to manipulate and figure out them each out. I think the entire story of Big Boss is tragic and unique. In a perfect world they each would have been heroes, but they all failed to understand each other; among other things.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I'm starting to think David Hayter not voicing Snake is a Stunt

Please don't give us false hopes, but what makes you think that? O is it a hunch maybe?

Edit: BTW has anyone already seen this trailer? Pretty interesting stuff, they show day/night lighting in what it looks to be the actual game engine (not pre-rendered stuff), sorry if it was already posted.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Now that I remember, over 150 hrs improving the mother base.... God damn it's sad to see it go like that, it's gonna be one emotional game for me.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

TPP has gone up for pre-order on the PS3/XBOX360 over at Zavvi i noticed today

This must mean GZ comes after, but whats interesting me is whether GZ will come out on current gen consoles or they will save it for the next gen

Does that mean we'll play one half current gen and the other half next gen?

Strange setup for these 2 games

I'm a big fan of mgs but this just looks stupid I don't care how badass it makes him just a dumb idea.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Didnt Big Boss have a "horn" at some point in the original metal gear games though? Im sure ive heard that before and this is why we have the shrapnel in his head

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I didn't mind so much that Snake's face was burned, but this horny thing just seems silly.

LOL

The thing I found silly in the gameplay footage of the game, was how slow you were crawling around the floor in the hospital. With the other guy saying come on! Let's go! Let's move. And he just lets Snake crawl on the floor, rather then helping him lol
