I doubt anyone can replicate MGS the same though

It's one of the problems i have with MGSV, it's doesn't truly feel like a MGS game, it feels like someone else trying really hard to replicate it

Might change once i've fully played TTP, but from playing GZ and what i've seen so far that the impression i get

That's a very good observation. It does feel like imitation. It's just Kojima really trying to shake up the formula, but if you do that to a high degree it doesn't resemble the series at all.

Well even Kojima has a hard time replicating it so getting a new take on it still seems like the better choice.

Kojima really is one of the best game designers there is and I would really like to get excited for games he makes again. There is some serious potential in him doing a new series.

This could be the best thing for MGS and Kojima.

I agree with the last part, but i think MGS should be laid to rest

Without Kojima it's almost safe to say it isn't MGS. It will either be a poor imitation and everyone will rip it for being just that, or it will be a generic splinter cell that ends up being a yearly release

I don't know guys. I feel like Kojima was never going to give us those Remakes we want and he was never going to give us the sequels we want. Even if it's motivated by money at least someone will try. I'm not saying it will be good or it won't end up an annual release I'm just saying I'm not going to dismiss it till I see where it goes.

I am also typing my resume up as we speak :lol

You can't be a creator of a series for 25 years, leave and then expect someone to take over who knows what you know about the characters and story and the dynamics of how it should play out

Even though i don't agree or like some aspects of what he's done, it all works within itself. PW wasn't great but it still had everything a MGS recipe would have

I try and think of another game that has features similar to MGS, and none do really. It's this quirky anomaly of a series

I should have noted, i meant if they try to carry on MGS main series as it is now

not to do a spin off or try something different like Rising

Look at how much people like Rising and AC!D. A new take has usually been pretty good for the series.

I was so scared and pessimistic about Rising coming out, and look how well that turned out. I really just think it depends on the creative talent behind it. Now Platinum has shown they got the chops to make the Ninja style MGS game we've always wanted... who could take the lead on a Stealth side of the series? A dream team would be Naughty Dog, since they've already created one of the most compelling stories ever done in gaming... but that's pretty far-fetched.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

Well, guess this series is going the Resident Evil route.

I was hoping this would be the last MGS, but annual releases are imminent now. This is bad news in my opinion, but I also don't have to pay attention to anything after TPP so I'm not too bothered.

I thought Rising crushed the beauty of Raiden's ending in MGS4. That character went through so much garbage his whole life and finally got a happy family—free from all war and the Patriots. So many made sacrifices for that to happen, including Solid Snake, and then Rising perverted it. I'd feel the exact same way if they tried to continue Solid Snake's story. Heck, Big Boss even waited and gave Solid Snake the choice before stepping in, to see if he wanted to live. Solid Snake and Raiden weren't like Big Boss; they wanted normal lives. They fought because they were helping people and saving the world. The world needed them.

I thought MGS4 was brilliant how it incorporated the horrors of the war economy, as well as our self reliance on technology and government control. People freak out about the government relegating everything, but they are willing to make the sacrifice because it makes life so much easier. We've become so lazy. These nanomachines take away fear, pain, and hunger, and the characters believed it was worth the trade off. Eva touched on how our kids and subsequent generations aren't even going to question the ethical or even logical problems with all this. Yeah, we could say they went a little crazy with how much nanomachines can do; however, I never fathomed a world with 3d printers that could create such elaborate prosthetic arms, like that Iron Man prosthetic for that child, could be made for $350! Heck, Darpa has the ability to control our computers—including our cars through Onstar!

I completely disagree with folks saying to take a property away from the creator who put their soul into something that we love. I think that's self-entitled and a bit infantile. I thought the Star Wars pre-quels were trash, but it's Lucas' universe! I think it's narcissistic to think that he should cater to our own individual interests. Personally, I'm fine with that original trilogy and don't even care about the new movies. That story was great, and if people want more—great! I don't though, and that's fine.

Rising was a fun, over the top game, with a storyline that was very much a parody or dark comedy of MGS in a lot of ways. It just sounds like you missed the point of it completely.

Yeah, I feel the same way. After MGS V, I hope those remakes will be in the pipeline. But, if not, I'm just going to follow Rising, because it's at least doing something different from the main series.

Yea, after TPP I'm probably out. I was hoping to see the remakes made, but I wouldn't want the Snake story told by any other developer/director. If they plan on make a new series with a new set of characters, then I'll definitely be more optimistic.

I agree with everything you said Bane, I actually enjoyed the hell out of Rising but I found the story to be so bad I don't even recognize it as canon. It's a game I enjoy because the gameplay is great and I love the designs. I'd be okay with more Rising sequels or a fresh new take on the series, but I won't be happy if they try to continue milking the Snake characters. I think Kojima did a great job with the main MGS titles, they're all well received, so it doesn't seem like he has fallen off like Lucas has.
