So it's just hipster douchebags, and not the regular ones?

In this case, one and the same. "Wait? Bond's actually being enjoyed at the box office?! Goddamit, now we have to hate on it." :monkey1 :lol

So far all the reasons for the hate have been aspects that are 100% consistent with other Bond films, so it's a big WTF. :cuckoo: :lol

To tell the truth, I don't care what others think. Hate it. Love it. Big deal. It has no bearing on how much I enjoy a movie.

saw this today with my wife and 5 week old baby (she slept through the whole thing which was awesome). Great Bond film. Did anyone else get a Dark Knight vibe from the whole thing? The villain and how he operated left that impression on me.

Ok, here goes.

Spectacular.

with a big head scratcher though, i'll get to that at the end.

This movie is NOT boring.

It kept me engaged, it was thought provoking and is what I believe to be one of the most sophisticated in the lengthy series.

When Mendes brought up TDK, he wasn't kidding was he. :lol There were parts where I expected TDK music to swell up, it sure sounded like Zimmer in parts,
listen when Kincade takes M into the mansion tunnel.

I still feel that TDK goes deeper with its layers, but for a Bond movie this was extraordinary.

First the obligatory comparison to CR.

It's definately its equal, better in some parts, but never worse, so in all actuality it just might be better.

But who cares, both are excellent.

Quick clarification needed:

did he sleep with MP during the shaving scene?

If so, wasn't the tension always the fact that MP desired Bond?

If he didn't, then it makes sense to me.

Anyways:

Holy crap, M died. I'm not a fanatic Bond fan so I don't follow Commander Bond for every spoiler, so I was shocked, especially since Mendes made her injury appear first as non life threatening, to me anyways.

Which leads me to my head scratcher:

I'm having a hard time buying into Bond being allowed to drag M into seclusion like that. Ok, lets say it was because she allowed it, which she did, but Bond said the plan was to bring Silva to them and then capture/kill Silva. Ok, his plan worked, Silva came, in a big ass helicopter, where was the calvary to shoot it down and rescue them?

I only have one wish left that I want to see again in a Bond movie, a huge military assault back up with Commander Bond leading the way.

One more thing, I wonder if Silva had instead lived and escaped but got burned and lost his goldilockes hair, if maybe he would've made a good head of Quantum/Spectre or whatever large terrorist organization they come up with next. Why not, he was such a great villain

Btw, that Shanghai fight was amazingly beautiful to watch!

Anyways, this movie wasn't boring, it was freaking awesome, and YES, one of the best Bond movies.

Loved the Shanghai fight. The use of light, shadows, reflections, color... Amazing cinematography.

And Bond didn't sleep with MP.

I'm not positive, but that may have been where she made the crack about old dogs, new tricks that probably broke the mood. :lol

I kind of got a TDK vibe from it, but not too much. Only during the
jail escape.

Speaking of babies, someone at my packed showing at the Cinemark XD theater (more expensive tickets, bigger screen, etc.) had their kid screaming through the first 20 minutes. It was pretty annoying, finally an usher came and they left. I don't know why some people won't go outside when their kid is obviously disrupting the whole audiences enjoyment :lol

As a huge geek, the Skyfall timeline is messing with me (yes it's just a movie, but this makes for an interesting discussion.)

Yes, I know CR was a reboot and not a direct prequel to Dr. No. That being said, Bond always lives in the present, which explains how Brosnan is the same guy as Connery and Moore: adjusted timelines. Brosnan and Dalton kicked No's ass on Crab Key in 1982 instead of '62 and so on and so forth. In this new timeline, Bond became 007 in 2006, leaving the door open for any new adventures.

But here, 007 is established as a burnt out veteran agent, and M's #1 guy, implying the missions of previous films happened in between QOS and SF (updated of course, like the 007 Legends game.) This is backed up
by the gadget-packed DB5. But then we get the old office, male M and Moneypenny at the end, which brings us back full circle.

If the reboot series is unconnected to the previous 20 stories, remember the DB5 in CR was a regular car with the wheel on the lefthand side.
The one here is presented as the tricked out DB5 with the righthand wheel from GOLDFINGER.

I know it's just a movie, but I'd still like to know where you guys would fit in the grand scheme of things.

CR, QoS, DN-DAD (in the present, tweaked to Craig continuity with Dench's M,) SF
vs.
CR, QOS, SF, DN-DAD

I think you're looking too far into it. Bond movies never really much cared about what the last one was about and just did whatever they wanted, very few references are made in any Bond movie to any previous one. I consider myself a continuity geek as well but with Bond I just don't even factor that part into it and just watch each movie as a stand alone film.
