I'd imagine it was necessary due to something along the lines of 'the 43 was smashed up in the HB fight' or 'the 43 won't work with FRIDAY'. Shame they didn't clarify it in the film really.

Yes that sums it up- new Mk thrown in for really NO reason....love how Mk VII was used in Avemgers and Mk 43 in AoU but this one sort of popped up for no reason. Like Thor's hot tub dip.:rotfl

Really? And the 43 was totally explained? Lol or the Mk 8-41? Or even the mk6. How many times do we need to see him explain why he uses a new suit or a different suit? I don't need to have them continue to explain that anytime a suit is damaged or even used he just grabs the next one in line. After ten years and a half dozen films I think I've figured it out enough to not need another explanation. How many times do they explain why Hawkeye or widow or hulk or Thor or cap or fury change costumes?

And thors dream sequence was explained pretty well. And given that it lead directly to the vision and why Thor helped to create him and what he is and why they should trust him...not really seeing an issue.

I think it also helped give Thor a bit more weight in the movie (and I'm not talking battle achievements), given how much focus is on Tony and Steve at the current phase of the series..

In a deleted scene (I think it was a deleted scene), the Mk 43 got taken over by Ultron.

I remember watching the movie for the first time and waiting for them to explain what the significance of the thor pool scene but then the movie ended and nothing.

I understand that there was originally more to it but including that part with no context made no sense.

Why did he have to disguise himself to go get Selvig? Why did he need to go get Selvig in the first place? Where was this pool? How did they get there?

When going into a final battle with the fate of the world at stake it makes sense that Tony would want to use a new armor. Sure the 43 wasn't completely out of commission but it did have some miles on it.

My guess answers to your queries:

1. To avoid attention.
2. Selvig knew where the pool was.
3. I don't think the location was disclosed, but does it really need to be in order to make the scene work?
4. I'm guessing they either drove (being that they were standing next to Selvig's car, or worst case scenario, Thor flew them there.

I definitely prefer the 45 design over the 46. I like the rounded gold on the chest over the rectangle. I like the gold on the in and outer thighs better. I don't like the gold hip piece that moves nor do I like the arc reactor on the 46. The 45 is like a Ferrari, while the 46 is like the best looking Fiat.

46 connects everything together while maintaining the Iron Man rigidity. 45 in comparison is too fluid. Not saying 45 is ugly.

i don't think an explanation is necessary.. but i like when there are reasons other than "the previous one has seen some mileage" or "he just wants to use a new suit".. i really liked the idea of the house party armors, they all seem to have been made for specific purposes which is pretty cool. i understand that for a main suit that something like that isn't very practical but i think the concept worked out great for iron man 3.

i like that most of the armors have had their own special ability or special reason for being used. like the marks 2/3 were a refined, streamlined version of the mark 1.

the mark 5 had the ability of being portable and was used in an emergency.

the mark 6 was made to accommodate the new reactor and included some more weaponry.

the 7 was decked in weaponry; the shoulder missiles, the thigh missiles, the forearm missiles, the lasers. and the mark 6 was far too beat up at the time to be totally useful.

the 42 was parts-forming and each part had its own propulsion system so he could call on the suit whenever he needed it.

the the mark 43 seemed like a tweaked version of the 42 with most of the changes being cosmetic (the color), but is probably more functional than the 42 since the 42 was a prototype.

but the 45 just doesn't seem like it had any obvious special purpose. now, logic tells me that he used it because it's his newest armor, it's probably more advanced than all of the others, and they were heading into a battle that could've spelled the end of the world. so, that makes sense. but i just wish it was a little more obvious.. maybe an innovative new weapons system or something similar to that. like i said, i'm sure it was more advanced, but i think they could've made that more apparent. plus, more cool weaponry seen on screen would've made this figure even better (considering those weapons probably would've been included with the figure).

also, i know that the lasers are a little different, but they're not different enough (to me) to be considered new weaponry and a necessary reason to be using the armor.

anyways.. i'm really glad he does change armors so often. i just love seeing the different designs, and different iterations of them. i wish the final battle in iron man 3 lasted a little longer and focussed more on some of the armors showing off their abilities.

i'm so excited for this figure. does anyone know if it can achieve the landing pose? it seems to be a standard feature at this point.. but i don't recall seeing any photos of it in that position or them showing off the type of articulation that allows it to happen.

a fiat? ouch. i too prefer the 45.. but i really like the 46. i like it more and more every time i see it. i still wish the face mask was different but i'm starting to get used to it. i would hate to have to choose between the two. they're just so great looking.

after looking at them side by side, the design of the 45 is a little more interesting overall. the 46 looks a bit more streamlined. the 45 can't come soon enough.

I think for mk43 was taken over by Ultron which is why the red helmet was included in the SS exclusive. Engineers (tinkerers) like Tony are alway looking to advance their tech. Im sure Tony uses experiences in battle to help him upgrade his armors.

I know this pic has already been posted a bunch of times But I'm not sure if we've seen it in this resolution. Just open the image in a new tab.

They really should've had Ultron take over the 43 during the movie... Though not sure when. If it would have happened at the party, Stark might've had to break out the 45 way before the final battle. If Ultron had taken it over during their encounter on Klaw's ship then no Hulkbuster I would think... *shrug*

In the first trailer, I always took when Ultron says, "I'm gonna show you something beautiful..." as him talking to Tony who would be trapped in the suit when Ultron assumed control. There was definitely a some potential there ...

Also, there was a deleted scene in which Tony tells Rhodey that he was going to send him a drive that would prevent Ultron from getting in his suit. Damn that it didn't happen at all ha still love the movie though.

It's not like the 43 had a ton of screen time.

Anyway..another pic of the 45 from the Marina Bay sands event. If you compare this to the last one I posted you can tell the color isn't a product of light. This one has a different flash and natural light. I know there where some comments it was maybe the lights. So..

I really like what they've done with the gold. That looks great.

Uurrgghhh! I hate this paint job, the gold looks great but the red looks cheap and the silver is too light. I prefer the proto when it was at Secret Base and the conventions.

My favorite picture of this armor. I was and would still be 100% satisfied if this were the released version. Still, I have no complaints with the updated figure. One is battle damaged and looks to have the traditional red and gold. The other is looking pristine with a beautiful paint app and more movie accurate details.

HT, just free this beast already!
