My first spoiler tag!

It's pretty awesome being able to do that now after a week of avoiding threads that had any. :)

Add me to the underwhelmed crowd about the Mark 45. I had trouble visually distinguishing it from the 43 when it was in battle, plus there was nothing special about it. Unless you count shooting an energy beam out of the chest. I did love the "His Girl Friday" reference though. :wink1:

I also felt

Mk45 was a little underwhelming, and unless I missed something, there didn't seem to be any reason for it, unless the 43 was damaged beyond repair in the Hulkbuster battle... There just is no real explanation for the suit. Every other suit I can think of either has an introduction, or we know is there because the events of the previous movie have led Tony to want to replace/upgrade his suit.

I'd also have liked something to tie Tony back into the IM character. Tony is just 'there' in a suit we know is based on the 42 after retiring at the end of IM3. The start of the movie ties in well with the events of The Winter Soldier, but not so much IM3.

I think if you were looking for a character action highlight for Iron Man in this movie, it is definitely the Hulkbuster fight.

Yes, I completely agree. In IM3 we are left with Tony blowing up all his suits, getting the shrapnel removed from his chest, and committing himself to Pepper. Yet, as AoU begins, he has a number of new suits built. What events precipitated this apparent change of heart? (No pun intended).

Maybe an extended cut on Blu-Ray will answer this question.

That's because basically IM3 was forgotten in this movie- didn't take place:rotfl

It's interesting that this question is being asked.

I guess after IM3 and walking into this movie, I always assumed Tony was going to be Tony, especially seeing he and Pepper redesigning a new and improved Stark Tower. And with that tower being rebuilt into a bazillion levels of R&D, Stark would get right back into cranking out new & improved armor designs for an array of tasks. I never considered him to be done, I thought the Clean Slate Protocol was something he did in the moment and may have stopped for a limited time until he got Pepper sorted out (Extremis).

I always assumed that Tony was never done after Iron Man 3. He said he was still Iron Man at the end. Just cause he blew up all his suits, got his arc reactor removed, and committed himself to Pepper so did not mean that he'd quit. He'll always be Iron Man if the world still needs it, plus, who cares if he blew up his suits. As Harley said, he's a mechanic, he can just build a new one whenever he wants.

The fact that the whole team has been for some time was something that bugged me before the movie came out and did even moreso after my first viewing. The second time I caught the line, in which Tony said to Thor that they have been looking for Loki's scepter since shield fell .... that made me feel a little better since that seems like a good reason for everyone to come back together and for Tony to don armor again.

:exactly:
He's Iron Man, I'm sure he would have at least one suit. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it

Yeah, I feel like a lot of people misinterpreted the end of IM3. Blowing up the suits, removing the shrapnel... that wasn't "I'm done with being Iron Man."

He built all of those suits because he nearly died at the end of The Avengers. He had PTSD, and compensated by building a ton of suits ready to handle every possible situation that could arise. He felt vulnerable, and echoed what Cap said; that he's just a guy in a suit. But after the story arc of Iron Man 3, and showing that he can be a hero with or without the suits, blowing them up at the end was a symbolic gesture to display that he'd overcome the fears that had driven him to build them in the first place.

So really in AoU, he had the MK43, and I assume the MK45 was just in design phases as "the eventual next step", because that's what Tony does. Hes always improving. I don't think the MK44 necessarily counts in this regard because that was a specialty suit that it sounds like Bruce requested/participated in, rather than Tony just building a new stockpile of suits.

With that said, while I don't think the MK45 was a "showstopper," or got a whole lot of the spotlight, I really like the smooth, streamlined design, and will happily purchase a HT release. :)

Plus, ya know, he's bankrolling the Avengers. You really think a guy like Tony is gonna keep something like that going and not have a bit of fun in the process? Lol

As much as this suit looked awesome it's going to be an easy pass for me. The 43 is where it's at.

That's one of the things that left me disappointed.

After this week's AoS, I don't think the Avengers were together doing missions before this.

It was implied in CA:WS that Stark and Banner were at least up to something (having built Avengers Tower). The new suits were probably built there during that time period.

Yes, new suits were built between Iron man 3 and AoU... Veronica (HB) for example was designed by both Banner and Stark just in case Hulk went out of control, and Tony needed a regular armor to operate it with so he made 43... As for him retiring at the end of IM3, he retired from being Iron Man, but not from being an Avenger (obviously) I would imagine he was willing to come back if the situation was that dire, which it was... And then ride off into the sunset again, which he did, this time retiring as an Avenger as well.

His demeanor when asked about Pepper was somewhat of a hint (to me anyway) that she was probably a bit pissed off that he decided to go avenging. It might all just be me reading between the lines that aren't there, but whether its true or not, it makes the most sense.

I think they were
at least sknce Shield fell. It's mentioned that they have been looking for Loki's scepter since SHIELD fell, so I think soon thereafter is when they banded together.

Yea, the 45 didn't do anything special at all. This film was more Tony Stark than IM, and the only time IM stood out for me was the Hulkbuster.

Excellent take. :duff

I just saw the movie, and damn was it fantastic. I'd say that it's my favourite marvel movie. And I guess then by default, also my favourite movie ever, as avengers 1 was probably 1st before.
