Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

Neither company seems to be able to get the black lines right. :dunno

Also, the SS one looks a bit more like the actor, imo. HT looks better quality tho.

The HT headsculpt on the right seems a little different in terms of coloring and stuff to the other pic posted by JC Hong/ the headsculpt shown at the con. Due to the paint job it looks like a different headsculpt to me. Am I alone in this?

Probably the pers and position of the head, should be pretty stellar for posing.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

Now let’s hope HT does Luke in pilot gear now. Time for HT to make he final blow

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

..was wondering if that whole set include the speeder bike fits into a Detolf or not :(

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

Hopefully this means we might get an Episode 1 Obi-Wan.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

I missed out on Sideshow TPM Obi-Wan so I gladly welcome HT, can just imagine how well they’d get his spikey hair after all the T2 T-800s.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

To be fair, that's one of Hasbro's worst.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

What tattoo pattern is most accurate?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

It isn’t objective? Is that to say the SS V2 and HT are based on separate looks from the film?

It's more that the makeup application was inconsistent throughout the film, so much so that it is hard to make a truly definitive call on what 'accurate' really means in this case.

If it looks right to your own eyes then that's about the best one can hope for in Maul's case, really.

Evolution...

I know the lightings bad on the HT head sculpt pic but I actually prefer the SS sculpt. It looks a more accurate Ray Park resemblance IMO. The HT version has more of a “Dark Horse comic” look about it.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

Oh, by the way, does the Hot Toys version have the earring, does anyone know? I haven't seen a picture where I've been able to tell.

Edit - Never mind, looks like I missed some pics along the way. it does indeed. :)

I really love the SSC head too. But I’ll get the HT anyways and hope for a second sculpt where he shows his teeth.

Check this post I made, due to being makeup, there were many variations, so much so no one look was consistent enough to be felt as THE look it should be at all times. I’ve drawn Maul a lot and have my own opinion as to which of them looks best and I consider to be what it should be, which is more in line with Sideshow’s figure.

I really think the depth the tats are sculpted to is the cause of this, there’s a well done human portrait underneath but the tats are so harshly visible at times, it takes realism away from the portrait. It’l be interesting to see how he comes out in production.
