I don't know how one would go about fixing the eyes, but judging from the comparison pics by Anthrapoid (way) earlier in the thread a little darkening of the fur on the head and doing some touch ups to the lips will go a long way. Both should be doable even for a novice (I hope) in the case there is no tweaks made before release.

It's going to be really interesting to see what mods people attempt with this guy once it's in-hand. Darkening fur in places? Moving facial pieces? Reshaping the mouth?

Good reference pics, matrix. And I agree, I just don't see a problem with him. He looks great to me. With different lighting and a little futzing he's gonna make an awesome piece.

Another thing I noticed that is throwing off the eyes is the area just around the eyes. There is no elongated indention. Now whether this is fixable remains to be seen but if it could be pressed in at the sides and top and bottom I think this would help a ton.

Those comparison pics just show how the figure doesn't have a definable brow line for starters.

Upper cheeks aren't pronounced enough, & the fur there needs to be shaped so it's combed more outwards.

Then the under bite.

Come on folks. :lol

Looks like his head has been knitted.

First in Hot Toys' new line of knitted characters?

And the changing face of Hot Toys' factories...

He looked better in those first promo shots:

^^ That's actually the one-off version HT is making just for me. The rest of you get the POTF2 12" homage version.

Replicating the fur well in 1/6 is no easy task either, & they should be praised most certainly for the detail they've managed to achieve.

With such iconic characters as these however, every little quirk & attribute is seared into our collective consciousness, & so when something isn't right about a face - it's obvious. It seems sometimes, that with HT' figures, they're more consumed with detail over accuracy in some cases.

Chewie's face is one of those times.

:goodpost:

I hope HT delay him for as long as necessary so that he doesn't become another DX05.

They could also lower Han's hairline and iron out Obi-Wan's excess wrinkles.

My current lack of faith in HT is disturbing.

I'm inclined to agree.

I think this needs an entire rework. Nothing is accurate except the nose.

The hair's all the wrong colours, and inaccurately rooted around the lip. The jawbone isn't quite strong enough and the brow section is all off. The dome of the head isn't quite conical enough. And as Vintij says, there's an underbite.

That's what I see.

I don't think you want to be encouraging anything more cone-esque in relation to 1977-83 Chewie's noggin. :lol

That's ROTS Sasquatch Harrybacca territiory - please no. :monkey4

:lecture Yep, gotta agree.

I still haven't really committed to getting him. I would LOVE to just so I can tick another must have off my list, but I'm not 100% on him. And, who knows, maybe they'll do a TFA or ESB/ROTJ version eventually. But it's a matter of whether I want to wait another 2+ years to have Chewie in my collection.

TFA Chewie looks messed-up, so not sure that'll help. :lol

I'm sure we will get a ESB/ROTJ Chewie, as some point, but in the meantime this one fills a huge gap in the collection. The other thing for me is on display, from a normal viewing distance, am I going to notice a lot of these critiqued shortcomings? No, I'm not. I'm gonna see Han and Chewie and it's gonna make me happy to look at them. Then when a nicer version comes out after 2 or 3 years, I'll sell this Chewie for a $50 or $75 loss and get the new one (or maybe not even bother, who knows). Life's too short for critiquing all the fun out of these stupid figures, IMO. This isn't a life or death purchase.

All good points, Invictus. I may wait to see in-hand pics, or else buy it in a panic if I see a low quantity warning on Sideshow's site! :lol

Like I said, I'm eager to get Chewie in my collection, but the shortcomings in the face (of all places) are preventing me from committing. I'm usually more forgiving of faults because I do take "normal viewing distance" into account, so I may end up with this Chewie after all.

yeah I have been wanting chewie for a long time. im still getting it if the head sculpt doesn`t look great I might use the custom sculpt that I made years ago

That's all dandy mate, but I want the 1977 Chewie - & if this is the final face, why would I buy something (assuming I've gotten past the 'fur' thing to begin with) that I don't like? I WANT to stand up close to the thing & enjoy the accuracy! :family

That said, different strokes & all that, sure.

Chewie's face is one of those times.

Good take.

For all of the grief the Han sculpt has gotten (not to mention my silly thread in The Sandbox, cough), for me it's far from HT's most lackluster OT effort. So far, it goes like this, from best to worst:

1. Stormtrooper
2. Han Solo
3. Darth Vader
4. Old Ben
5. Chewbacca

And, at the moment, HT's Vader is only mediocre in my eyes. I didn't include the Shadowtrooper and Spacetrooper because I don't care for them. :lol Nor did I include the 1/4 Boba Fett and ROTS Vader.
