Man the complaining is getting old. To me its do you want reality or intent. The reality is the ”real” helmet is messed up… it looks crappy and its all over the place. The intent was for it to be what HT and Sideshow are giving us. Do you really think that Vader and the Emperor would settle for the “real” helmet? Vader would look at the fool who made it and force choke him to death. Obviously everyone wants what they want so the complaining will never stop but it just seems pointless to me. And the people calling things garbage and a disgrace and comparing Chewy to a hairball really need to tone it down a bit. They may not be perfect in your eyes but they are nowhere near garbage or a disgrace. Maybe I am just too old for this crap anymore. Get off my lawn you idiot kids. :)

I've seen worse complaints and arguments in other sections. It's been quite civil and tame in here.

If there weren't problems, there wouldn't be so many people in these threads pointing them out. Other Sideshow and Hot Toys releases have endured this, it's the way releases go until they start to ship. If people have a problem with that, they should only look at the first page, check out the pics of the product they seemingly love, and then leave. If not, the next few months will be torturous for them. Other than unanimous praise for a product, what discussions do people expect to see until the first in- hand pics hit?

with its many nuances and imperfections, the film used ANH Vader helmet is an amazing piece... if Hot Toys wants to truly get it right, they need to appreciate the subtleties. picking up a 1:1 E-FX Vader Legend and using it as a model to sculpt to would be a good start.

Quick photoshop job.

The face is "drooping" so I copied the angles from the Ep4 photo on the left and "lifted" everything up to match. The mouth isn't as broad and the nose was too big so adjusted them accordingly. Dropped the helmet. Darkened the silver bits and added some red to the eyes.

Not perfect by any means - just a rush job - but I hope this helps people to identify where the difference are.

Pointing them out is one thing.... pointing out the SAME PROBLEM for the 100th time is getting old.

It is funny to read these Star Wars pages. I really wish it could be black and white on figures. Either almost perfect or fubar. However, these companies always will leave room for improvement. It's what keeps us coming back to re-buy. I am sure this Vader will kick ass in the end. Price is what kept me with the SSC Vader.

I'm in the camp of thinking the HT Vader is way off, so I started out to do a comparison. Using this ANH helmet promo shot and comparing to a HT shot it shows that the dome and mask really aren't that far off. The nose and eyes should be wider, but otherwise it's pretty close.

Of course the chestbox is still too small and he's still too tall, but the mask isn't necessarily what needs fixing the most.

This is the 1st time and last ill chime in on the sculpt so take it or leave it based on observations of images you placed before me. there appears to be a gloss to helmet where as it's matte in proto. the eye sockets in 1:1 is wider and depth. cheekbones as it were lack definition in the HT it needs a convex curve and positioning is wrong. the nose is slightly narrow, neck should be narrower and voice box in neck needs to be wider. and the edge shaping of mask seems off like it should be higher and wider exposing more of mask. if you follow edges you'll see the ht has to much material there.

That's it in a nutshell

Screen represented or not, I like the matte finish on the mask and helmet. That was the one change I remembered first and foremost from how he seemed to appear in ANH and then how shiny and bright he became in ROTJ.

I think the pointing out the problems is for hot toys to take notice....

They improved the Christopher reeve superman even when the first prototype was already close, and we know hot toys somewhat listens........however, Indy didn't fare as well.....

I'll just say:

Attention Hot toys,
Please get your hands on an eFx helmet ( from one of your fellow licensees called eFx collectibles )
and COPY IT, if you can't get a real helmet from anybody else.

adjust your sculpt...I know you go for precision, this time aim for accuracy......
Its close but there are few glaring differences, use the remaining time to work out the issues ....( black interior eyelids and black eyelid arches will make a big difference)

What you've done is very subtle but has nailed one of the overall problems, that slight droop to the face. I would add that equally important is the slope of the mouth grill. While the angles between the pics is slightly different, the HT grill needs to be more sloped back.

The line of paint on the bridge of the nose is also throwing the nose out. You can see the black is too far up the bridge of the HT fig's nose (making everyone say the HT nose is too thin.) You can see in the ANH pic it's further to the left, making his nose seem broader.

I know someone mentioned it already, but the hands are really creepy... They don't look like gloves, but bony black fingers and way too thin.. The more I look at these pics the more I shake my head in bad way. Usually it's the opposite and I talk myself into buying it, not out of buying it!! :dunno Just something about it as a whole.. I'm sure I'll get it eventually since it's Vader!! :cuckoo:
