Still - the whole figure looks too 'new', not the battle hardened attack dog we were hoping for.. yet. :monkey3

Something's off. I'm not enough of a Vader aficionado to know what.

Just been reposing the Sideshow and the rosy glow has worn off, the HT might tempt me yet.

The horizontal wrinkles in the SS suit are caused by the boots pushing the suit back up the legs. I think it was Clipper King who cut some material off the legs and glued them down.

And all those craptacular electronics make the belt stick out. I could do without all the flashing lights, and could have done with a greater variety of left hands instead.

The SS doesn't feel like a very poseable figure because I'm constantly having to hide the gloves and the arms with the cape.

Yes please hurry because sideshow collectables is going to be selling it for $299 right up until the deleivery date and then some. Milk much... No hurry in buying this.

Well some people wanted to order with BBTS to get an order in but not have to pay an NRD and it's been sold out there for awhile.

Thank you for your support Yankeesfanboy! ( Charlie Hebdo)
It happened in the street where i work. It's very bad in Paris right now...

Sorry for the out of subject...

Basically, it looks more like a ROTS Vader right now.. give or take. :monkey1

Lots of signature 1977 stuff that isn't replicated properly on the suit & head. It looks like a kick*** figure nonetheless, but it'll be bittersweet if the mistakes aren't rectified. I don't want an approximation Vader, & I've ripped on the SSC figures enough now for that reason, so.. ehh.

We'll see. :lol

Anyone stop to consider that the bonus "damaged" Vader head, that came packed in the exclusive version of Hot Toys Bespin Luke, might be worth looking at for a bit of insight into how the Hot Toys Vader will look?

I was just looking at mine....

Maybe this started out as ROTS Vader w/ operating table early on and they switched it up to "ANH" when that became a theme.

"If I admitted to that maybe being a possibility..

..then the LERATH has already won."

For me it is not the Vader we saw in 77...
It seems more a ROTS three weeks later Vader for me...

Whether it was originally intended as a ROTS Vader or not, I think it's likely HT preferred to make it look more like that version. Probably because they feared the majority of their buyers (or the more casual SW fans out there) would be turned off by the flat-finished, roughly sculpted ANH look, and would only really be willing to put down $300 for a shiny, idealized Vader like this one.

For those who got the vader deluxe from Sidehsow , all you need to do is try and get the body suit from the 2009 SSC vader and you have PERFECT vader .

Sure it might not be new hope style , but it looks better than this Hot Toys one . The off thing about the hot toys one for me is the body suit is meant to be pleathery and soft and wrinkly . This one looks a bit weird ( maybe too ridigid looking ) . The closest one ive seen to an accurate body suit is the 2009 SSC Vader suit . Still, when it came to Amazing Spiderman 2 , everyone thought the suit would be vinyl like the proto pics, but it turned out the opposite.
The only think I like about the hot toys one so far , is the light sabre and boot shin guards. and maybe the gloves and High Quality engineering aspect of it .

That's a great post, makes you wonder what the Asian market wants - which is what Hot Toys would be primarily concerned with - a shiny idealised Vader or a beat up screen accurate one.

Here's an idea - maybe they should do a screen-accurate one and call it Battle Damaged Vader?

I think the problem lies in what Hot Toys is calling it. It is called "MMS ~ Episode IV: A New Hope". That is where all the discussion is stemming from. It doesn't accurately portray what it is supposed to be. If it's not necessarily a screen accurate version from A New Hope, then don't call it that!! Call it "MMS ~ Darth Vader". No movie reference - no issue. Everyone happy :clap Hmmmm.... But then people would be confused and say what version is it!!! :thud:

I'm not really sure how much of their business comes from the Asian market versus anywhere else, but I imagine there's probably lots of casual US and UK fans who would probably prefer a shiny idealized Vader to a properly accurate ANH Vader as well.

As long as it "looks really cool", most people probably aren't too concerned over whether these figures look completely screen accurate or not.

Both SSC Vaders have their good points, but my problem with the above is that I find the mouth/grill on SSC Vader 2.0 distractingly large, and I'm not even a huge Vader aficionado.

The perfect mix of Sideshow parts for me would be 2.0 Vader with 1.0 body suit and 1.0 mask. Maybe with a Hasbro helmet, not sure about that for ESB.
