So at this point what would be easier to mod into an accurate ANH Vader-- the old SSC figure or this new HT one? Because after seeing all these ANH Vader pics recently, I find myself really wanting one.

The HT probably has the more accurate mask, but then you're still stuck with the smaller chest armor and chest box. And looking at what people have done with their customs, you can still get a really great result with the old mask too, once you put a better helmet on.

Even if it's not perfect in every detail, it seems to me those customs capture the general feel of ANH Vader MUCH better than the HT ever could.

I wouldn't be so quick to write off the HT yet, especially since no one has a production model in hand. With that said, I had an SSC ANH Vader with a Hasbro helmet and custom cape, and it looked pretty stunning, just way too tall, but that seems to be all 1/6 Vaders at this point. Anyway...if all you want is ANH Vader looming menacingly on your shelf, you could do a lot worse. But if you want up-to-date engineering and articulation with lights and sound, HT will probably be better.

For those who got the vader deluxe from Sidehsow , all you need to do is try and get the body suit from the 2009 SSC vader and you have PERFECT vader .

Sure it might not be new hope style , but it looks better than this Hot Toys one . The off thing about the hot toys one for me is the body suit is meant to be pleathery and soft and wrinkly . This one looks a bit weird ( maybe too ridigid looking ) . The closest one ive seen to an accurate body suit is the 2009 SSC Vader suit . Still, when it came to Amazing Spiderman 2 , everyone thought the suit would be vinyl like the proto pics, but it turned out the opposite.
The only think I like about the hot toys one so far , is the light sabre and boot shin guards. and maybe the gloves and High Quality engineering aspect of it .

MY SSC Deluxe with 2009 body suit

Looks really good. Any mods other than swapping the suit? Padding, trimming, etc.? My vader is displayed in such low light that the suit doesn't really bother me, but that suit definitely seems like an improvement in pics.

I think the problem lies in what Hot Toys is calling it. It is called "MMS ~ Episode IV: A New Hope". That is where all the discussion is stemming from. It doesn't accurately portray what it is supposed to be. If it's not necessarily a screen accurate version from A New Hope, then don't call it that!! Call it "MMS ~ Darth Vader". No movie reference - no issue. Everyone happy :clap Hmmmm.... But then people would be confused and say what version is it!!! :thud:

Reminds of the time HT marketed their Giger alien as the most accurate ever...

Here's an idea - maybe they should do a screen-accurate one and call it Battle Damaged Vader?

I'm sure that's coming at some point.

HT is calling it ANH because SS is still selling their ESB/ROTJ version and this gives the illusion of no conflict of interest.

I'm not really sure how much of their business comes from the Asian market versus anywhere else, but I imagine there's probably lots of casual US and UK fans who would probably prefer a shiny idealized Vader to a properly accurate ANH Vader as well.

As long as it "looks really cool", most people probably aren't too concerned over whether these figures look completely screen accurate or not.

Bingo. :exactly:

I love how people defend the HT price by saying if SS were making it today it would cost the same as HT at $300. Like some how you can't get the SS figure, so you have no choice but to buy the HT at $300.:dunno

Looks like Tyrion came out pretty nicely. Noticed a lot of great photos from you, lately, Fiend. Is this something new for you or was I just missing them? I recall you posting pics but not with the figures so deliberately posed and with the neutral background. Anyway, they're looking great.
You might have missed some of the early pics I used to take. I kind of got out of it for a while, but I had some free time last week and I took a lot of different pics. No kids, no wife - it was nerd time at House Fiend. :lol

Thanks for the compliments though. Im always paranoid they look like poo. :lol

So $300 for.....
A Vader that breathes, small droid, light up Saber...

and SSC gave us an extra head, light up base, light up helmet stand, and $50 cheaper...

Hmmm....

Yup SSC wins it for me.

I can just buy the light up saber on ebay, same with the droid for under $50.

Glad I got the Vader a year in a half earlier and cheaper.

Suure it does...

HT "quality"

Nothing like HT "quality"

Yup...

I cant wait for HT Vader 2.0... $400, calling it now.

Never mind him, he's Australian. He needs to turn pictures upside down to see them right.

Takes an Aussie to take down a troll obviously. He is making a nice start for his first ten posts however.:lol

Hi , no other mods other than the suit change, I didn't have to refit it or anything it fits nice and I added no extra padding . Its a shame you have to sacrifice a suit off one figure to glorify another but it bugged the *** out of me. The Deluxe suit was terrible not even a close likeness , it felt like cheap pencil case material. Also the stitching wasn't stitched it was embossed . The suit lines were also too wide apart . I don't know what SSC was thinking when they included that new suit to the deluxe model. But hey if you can , its worth it , hunt down the old ssc vader and just grab the suit . Put the new deluxe suit on the older one so nothing is wasted. I even put the deluxe spare dome on the 2009 model and it worked out great . I prefer the 09 suit on the deluxe just because I think its as close as you can get to a near accurate vader ( ROTJ and ESB anyway )

Anyway for now Im not in love with the Hot Toys Vader , but saying that Id bet when he comes out I will be like " I WANNA I WANNNA WANT IT !!!!!!!!!!"""" just because its Hot Toys. People will get it just because owning a Hot Toys is like being in an exclusive club and its trendy .

Some people buy Hot Toys just because its a kind of status thing , sorta like show and tell, I guess that's what we do here . Show our stuff off to each other . But most of us show our figures because we love them , and they mean something special to us. That's why I think even though this new Vader is a bit off, people will get it because they can relate to the figure like relating to the source material. Sorta like being as close to the movie as possible in 3d solid format . \\

When I see him in hand I guess ill make my mind up then, but until that time my modded SSC Deluxe Vader suits me fine and I love it . For the items you get hes the best value for money above most figures.

We all know some collectors would buy anything SSC or HT throws at them (you have to love the various companies fanboys and cheerleaders :)), and others wouldn't make for example a difference between a Spud Potato Head and a Marmit Stormtrooper regarding accuracy. We also know some people still don't seem to understand what an accurate 1:6 or 1:4 figure means.

They think people who like accurate figures ask for every nick and dent to be present on the armor and helmet, when in fact the fans of accurate figures simply want a figure to look really good, like a scaled down character who stepped down from the silver screen. It is understandable that you cannot have a 1:6 figure match a 1:1 screen used prop, neither in accuracy nor looks, but still the figure can be made closer than the attempts we have seen so far from too many companies.

You are not worth my time....

move along, move along
Don't take it personally bunky, the SSC Vaydas are just wonk-a-thons, that's how it is. :huh

I saw this on Ebay, someone is selling this (not me). Its a Hurricane New Hope Vader, although it's a tad rough, I See ANH Vader immediately. I just can't see it in this Hot Toys Version.
