Yeah, that's a good point. SSC's Mythos Obi-Wan Kenobi is an excellent likeness to both Guiness and McGregor, along with some of the other PFs to their sources. Theory debunked, I guess! Well, hopefully we see some tweaks.

Yeah, it's either a big Lucas conspiracy - or the artists are just not delivering, supported by a company that doesn't have the same affection for quarter-century old movie characters as its relatively small group of nerd fans, and licensors who are satisfied with 'close enough'.

Hmm, well Lucas did butcher the OT by retrofitting all that b.s. into it... and the man did give us Jar-Jar. Yup, he's ****ing with our toys now for sure!

Strange how it seems so challenging to get good sculpts.

Anyway, I'm actually OK with the HT Han sculpt personally. Strange, I know. Ben I'm not crazy about at all. Curious how Luke and Leia will fair.

I see Ford from at least one angle. Hopefully it'll be one of those many sculpts that just don't photograph well. Iminime's Neo was like that for me... expected to receive an average-looking sculpt but once it was in my fingers I couldn't believe how good it was.

I saw this on Ebay, someone is selling this (not me). Its a Hurricane New Hope Vader, although it's a tad rough, I See ANH Vader immediately. I just can't see it in this Hot Toys Version.

If they hit the HT fig (mask, dome, shoulder armor) with some dulling spray it would help. The first thing Hurricane did was matte the Hasbro helmet, and if you look at his facemasks, they are really roughly painted and pretty matte. That's half the ANH look right there.

That Hasbro dome always looks too big for the facemask on the Hurricane figs to me though, but it's a better look than the too-small domes the SSC Vaders have.

The ANH Vader dome isn't matt. It's gloss black. It's just not polished like ESB and RotJ. Also... it's full of fingerprints and occasional dulling spray, but is predominantly gloss in the movie.

The issue with the HT isn't that it is glossy... but that it is the wrong kind of black they are using.

Was just gonna post the same thing about the glossiness of the ANH Helmet. You beat me to it Carsten.

Whatever about the helmet, I like it.

But there's really no excuse for the crappy gloves, too-small chest box, and oversized height.

Hopefully those are the three things that HT will change. The rest is futzing.

:exactly:tho I have my doubts the height will be fixed. I am beginning to believe it is something mandated by the licensor....

I'd say Luke is a great example. No doubt it's "Luke", but is it Hamill? Personally I just see Luke.

The VOTC Han has got a better likeness of Ford than the HT likeness:

And a better paint job than Drake...

I'm sure it's probably been referenced before here, but I just came across this guy's 1:1 ANH Vader and absolutely LOVE the job he did on him, especially with the paintjob. It may not be 100% accurate (it seems to be missing the reddish lenses for instance), but it's still really damn impressive.

And really shows how much difference a rough, beat up, and asymmetrical mask makes to Vader's ANH look.

That's Gino's(eFX) Vader. It's the lighting, those lenses are definitely red.

Yeah if the hot toys one looked like that even though it would be super accurate ,regular people and Star Wars fans who don't actually know a lot about the different versions and degradations of the Vader Masks would get turned off because looks a little beat up and hand made.
some otherpeople are weird they want accuracy , but then complain when it is a little too accurately done....you know what I mean hehehee

I heard a story of a guy who went to Game Traders and bought a Hot Toys Iron Patriot then returned and complained about the battle damage .he thought it was a bad paint job and badly scratched but it was just battle damaged. The same sort of guy would return a Hot Toys Vader if its got damage and wear and tear

Yeah I don't think I would want my Vader to come with a dome with simulated finger prints all over it just cause it's accurate to some scenes. I'll provide my own fingerprints to Vader's dome.

What I mean is that at 1/6 scale the ANH helmet appears more matte than gloss. At full size it's obviously gloss with a lot of matte stuff over it like 3PO in most of ANH.

For the treatment, I didn't mean straight matte, I meant that high polish gloss is the ESB and ROTJ look, so a quick fix to make it look more ANH would be to matte it back a bit the way Hurricane does. At 1/6 he captures the ANH semi-gloss sheen quite well in an overall sense. Maybe it's that thing about as you scale things down you need to up the contrast, so "semi-gloss" in 1:1 becomes more matte at 1/6, not sure.

Agree on the kind of black.
