They don't need to go über accurate with the paint-job to create a nice looking ANH look. Though the brush strokes and scratches and nicks add character, they really aren't essential to achieving the look. Marmit achieved the look and theirs was pretty clean with the paint job.
Yeah I guess that's true. There's probably more of a problem with the general shape and proportions than anything else. Although for me personally it's the duller and more beatup paintjob that are my favorite things about ANH Vader.

Not bad there, a little tall and box is too small as has been pointed out many, many, many times.

Guys. I am contemplating on getting this guy or the SSC Vader. What I have now is this.
The Gentle Giant statue. Would this be the correct height at 1/6? Or is it way too big?
I want a poseable Vader, and I kinda like HTs design, although I feel SSC has a more...Vader vibe to it.
Any recommendations?

It is all about what look you desire. The Hot Toys version looks more like it is from ANH and the Sideshow version is an ESB / ROTJ look. The Sideshow version also comes packed with a ton of accessories to allow for multiple display options. I am a big fan of the helmet stands.
Yeah I think the elements are probably there for it to be turned into a good ANH Vader. But it's not really close enough on it's own unfortunately.

I'm still liking him and think the mask is the best I've seen in 1:6, even if not fully representative of ANH. Have a feeling that once in-hand I'll be happy with it, though.

Depends on your preference, neither is perfect,if I was a casual Vader fan and not after a specific movie look Id go the HT version as it looks better overall, but stylised, but sideshows has lots more accesories and display optionsGuys. The SSC is not without its flaws, but I think it looks streets ahead of the HT offering. Needs a body swap though, otherwise it's stupid big.

I'd opt for the HT version,looks like a guy in a suit and despite it's flaws seems vastly superior to the DX
