Looks pretty damn close to me. I don't have a 1/6 Vader. Can't decide if I like this one more than the SS. Something about SS's helmet that looks more realistic to my eye.

I agree, it's fairly close if you imagine the proto sample pic rotated chin-upwards away from the screen a bit. Still issues with the brow area thickness/roundness, and helmet flair angle and bottom slope, but the size and shape of the mouth area looks pretty darn close to me.

The cheap semi-gloss finish of the proto's helmet doesn't look right, should be glossy plastic and then scuffed/weathered. The paint around the mouth and cheeks also looks brushed-on and rushed. Hopefully that will be fixed. Otherwise, I prefer the HT helmet and mask over the SS one.

Here's the closest comparison shot I could find, so those of you with photoshop skilz can do a more scrutinzing comparison. Tried to scale the pictures based on size and angle of mouth.

I still think the mask is pretty close, though it should be black around the inner eye lens and they should get rid of that nose plug. The dome needs to be tweaked but lighting and camera lens can really make it look alot worse than it actually is

Not sure if this is new but I haven't noticed it until now. It looks like they actually tried to implement the scratched weather look onto the mask. Done is clean but you can see it on the mouth area.

Where is that pic from?

Where is that pic from?

In previous pics you could even see the " brush strokes" on his cheek...though it's weird that on the other side the gunmetal is "sprayed" on ......
The original prop was all brushed on details, so I think it should be consistent one way or the other.....

To me the helmet looks like a cross between ANH and ESB. The "brow" proportions and angles look more like ESB, but it comes to a point like ANH, and it might rest of the face a little too high more like ESB. Also I didnt see the dimple in the middle.

And where are the subtly red eyes? Even in person I couldnt really see any red.

I don't remember who took this but you can see the red lenses.

The eye sockets should still be in black, and for Anh version, the eyelid edge should also be black, so you cannot see the rim while his dome is on...
And the gunmetal on his upper right cheek should curve away toward he edge of his nose...

The domes skirt should stick out forward more at the brow and lessen the arches, that'd help tremendously

The attention to the smallest detail some fans have never ceases to amaze me. That is not sarcasm BTW, I am seriously impressed by the knowledge some fans have about these characters

Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw...and vader has been my favorite character for as long as I can remember, and as someone whose really familiar with the look, there are nuances that make or break the likeness...by now these companies, with all their technology and ability to reference through internet should be able to replicate it perfectly, but they seem blind to the obvious things...that said, I don't really expect these guys to pay that kind of attention and realize that for the most part a decent likeness is all I can expect...although a fantastic likeness is what would please me most...

There's been 12" versions of Vader for nearly 40 years. It would be nice to have one that you can hold in your hands that looks like a shrunken down Vader from the movies instead of simply yet another 12" version of Vader, even if it is a bit more detailed and better quality overall.

It's time for a "definitive" 1/6 version of Vader, one that has as much attention to detail and accuracy as the prop and model replicas that have come out in the past few years. Vader's the most iconic SW visual of all.:dunno

Ignorance is bliss.

I dunno i'm a huge SW fan. I just don't get hung up on accuracy. It looks like Darth Vader to me, and that is just fine and dandy. But i do agree with it's not a human face thing, that for sure plays a part. It'll probably be tweaked anyways, i remember all the folks rage quitting Hot Toys after the ASM2 proto pics LMAO! (And that turned out awesome, and i doubt fans had anything to do with it)

I admire your optimism but as I've said all along; I imagine this stylized version has been instructed by Disney. So not hopeful for tweaks to make it 'imperfect'.

I don't mind accuracy either, all I know is that I like this Darth Vader
