Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Looks snazzy in this shot, if its the 1/6 Vader.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Oh wonderful were the days that everyone thought that a HT Vader would be the second coming of Christ. :lol

And Charlton Heston never played Obi Wan :nono

I think most of us just expected HT not to "Sideshow it", but it seems they kinda did.

Sideshow said years ago when they did their first Vader, LFL put strict constraints on them to craft as stylized version of the helmet. Could very well be that mandate is still in effect and why we continue to see a smaller, PT styled dome on all Vader products these days.

Yeah, I'm always wondering about what restrictions all the toy producers are given from LFL. Same thing with the assymetrical face, I could imagine creating a symmetrical Vader is another mandate, to hide "inaccuracies" from the movie.

That would be the most reasonable explanation. I thought with Disney on command now, and seeing how they are aiming to the old fans market, I kind of hoped they would respect the wish for accuracy.

They actually said that?

I've read that before via someone speculating, but never implied as something that was actually established.

"They" being someone with Sideshow, yeah. It was so long ago, could have been Dusty, I really don't remember, but what was said was that LFL didn't want that "imperfect" version a Vader from ANH to be the version of Vader being represented in their products. If that was a true statement I don't know, but I was said here by someone with Sideshow. It was a long time ago in a board far far away when a variety of Sideshow folks interacted regularly here, before the dark times....before Hot Toys

OOOOOR, maybe I imagined it all. I guess we'll never know :)

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Right, ok then. :lol

Anyway, this one has much more going for it at this stage than either of the SSC Vaydas.

Still doesn't have that 1977 vibe yet though, as I mentioned earlier.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Not sure what to think...overall these look great. A touch off here, a touch idealized there...but for an out-of-the-box collectible where is their equal?

Customs are expensive passion projects that take time as well as money so I don't think they're really comparable. My biggest gripe with this Vader prototype is the high dome, everything else falls within acceptable limits or meets expectations, which for this line are crazy high anyway.

I do have to agree that the SSC Obi Wan sculpt looks more like Guinness but it appears HT human sculpts get a little "heroic" and idealized, like that stronger jaw on HT Luke.

Not sure if I'll buy, since what I really want is an ESB Vader to slap Luke around or go strolling with Snowtroopers.

Maybe I'm being too forgiving this morning...I'll wait for more photos to roll out and let this sink in.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I think those are pretty poor pics of a very poorly futzed amazing looking Vader.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Would love to see the Vader shot next to the Stormtroopers where we can see the height more clearly. The first shots make the little stormie look puny.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I'm a bit underwhelmed by these Vader shots, he just doesn't scream ANH to me. Of course, after some proper posing and futzing, his look can change completely, so this is just based on these very early shots.
I feel he looks too "heroic", if that makes sense. Like he's based on a comic book appearance, where proportions are idealized. Knowing Hot Toys though, I think the actual product will be better, as many here have said.
Since I'm more into the ESB/ROTJ look, the ANH Vader would have to be near perfect for me to get it, and I'm not seeing it so far. Either way, I'm most likely still getting parts from this to upgrade my ROTJ Vader.

Yes, it's a bit too heroic... that's a good way to describe what I'm not liking. It's got a lot of positives going for it, but there is just something off that I don't care for. I think the body proportions are all good (still needs a futzing to the outfit) but the head seems a bit small and the face and dome just don't look right to me.

Just like Indy :lol

Thank you Hot Toys! I now have a Moriarty to go with my Sherlock Holmes. "from a certain point of view"

Yes, that's who he looks like :lol Well done sir :lecture

Looks like Jesus is using the Sideshow Vader body too.

Yeah, I'm really hoping this is perspective giving him that 15" look, but I'm guessing they also think he should be over 7ft tall :duh
