Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Look at Vader and that Stormtrooper; either than Stormie is damn near Ewok size or HT is doing a tall ass Vader. Either way, I am concerned

That's the Luke sized Stormie.

But he's slightly taller than he should be. Could be the tall-and-straight pose they put him in.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I think those are pretty poor pics of a very poorly futzed amazing looking Vader.

Agreed! When are people going to learn first pics from a thrown together toy show proto are NOT represenitive of the final product

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I'm not feeling the Vader too much. It doesn't look bad but something seems off to me.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Just not as much fun as it should be, this doesn't make me grin and look forward to getting it; the dome needs to be taller and basically this looks too heroic, it lacks that sprinkling of Topps bubble gum dust.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Keeping in mind the futzing and pictures aren't great, I think it looks really good. I might be just imagining it, but it seems like someone finally got the eye lenses right. Most cases I've seen, they look too narrow but these have that really wide look I've always liked about Vader. Really glad they reproduced the asymmetrical mask. Definitely a buy.

Ben, on the other hand... Looks very idealized and not so much like Guiness. It's sort of weird but I get the impression that HT is not so concerned with actor likenesses w/Star Wars as they are with other properties. Luke, Han and Ben all represent the character well, but aren't dead ringers for the actor. Wonder if that's LFL/Disney.

Glad to see no light-up sabres. Not sure why fans think HT would bother with something super fiddly and QC ridden as CCFL sabres. It will never happen, so stop hoping for it. :lol

Also happy to see that now we have an HT Vader to compare, it doesn't totally destroy SSC's at all. There is still plenty I like about SSC's, though I'll be selling at some point, since I can't justify having two and don't plan to mod it to correct the height. Bundled with Pixelpiper's sabre and battery mods for the chest/belt lights and stand, though, it is an awesome representation, even with its flaws.

Finally: Take that, lerath!!! Pre-order next week, at the latest!! :bunnydanc

Id say Hurricanes newest ANH Vader still reigns supreme.
Pretty sure I'm the only one that feels this way, but I really dislike Hurricane's. To my eye, it looks too cobbled together from different molds and the chest box is atrociously sloppy. I don't get the love for that figure at all. I'd take HT's every day of the week over Hurricane's.

Face/helmet looks a little better when viewed straight on:

Still looks too long/narrow, but a little better than some of the other shots.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

vader looks amazing, not sure why all the hate. will say it looks more like ROTJ to me than ANH but still looks better than SS.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

So Hot Toys is basically repackaging Sideshow's over-sized licorice-pants Vader? :huh

This is the modded Vader I sold. I think it looked great and I was happy with it, but I also think the HT Vader will feel better, move better...then an older, customized figure.

It may be because I'm not as OCD about Vader's costume as I am about stormtroopers, but I think this one is the best to date, and has a more refined, accurate mask sculpt than its predecessors. Time will tell.

Yeah, that's my feeling, as well. I think the lack of excitement over the figure just has a lot to do with how many times we've seen representations of the character.

I think you should have kept that one... sure the robes are hiding the oversized gloves and boots; but damn does that look like Vader :lecture

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I see absolutely no reason to drop nearly $300 on this when there is basically no improvement over Sideshow's.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Seriously though, I'm not seeing ANH Vader....

Having just looked through the pics again I can't say I fully see ANH Vader either. It seems like an idealised version of Vader (but maybe that's what Hot Toys have been told to make...).

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Well...there he is. I said before the pics showed up. He is the best representation of Vader so far in 1/6. But I also DID say he was not perfect. You were warned. Being a Vader guy I can list you half a dozen things I find wrong with HTs Vader, but I can list you twice as many things things wrong with Sideshows attempts. So it is a vast improvement. But I think the main problem with the pics released from the show vs. the ones I have seen.. is the pose. People always like to pose Vader in action poses with a lit saber. Vader was static and stoic 99% of the time. Even in Empire he mostly fought Luke with 1 hand. He is not an action character. The dome and facemask are miles ahead of anything Sideshow has done so far. Problem is the dome is sitting too high, like every other Vader out there. On ANH especially the widows peak should go far enough down the bridge of the nose to cover the top slot on the bridge, it should not be visible. Do that and pose him in a static no lit saber pose and you will see he is not perfect...but damn close.

EDIT: I will clarify that before someone else brings it up. When I talk about the proper dome placement for ANH Vader I am speaking of the 1st Tantive IV scenes and the majority of others how it was intended to be...however Vaders dome is a mess in ANH, it is all over the place. Especially when he is flying his TIE. So yeah a high place dome could technically been screen accurate, but not the intended representation.
