Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Hot Toys Vader, Prop helmet, Sideshow Vader.

Anh or esb, the face should be the same general shape....

Ht has the overall shape, though slightly elongated because:

1. The nose has an insert that makes it look extra small and longer - unnecessary
2. The silver paint next to the nose on his right (our left side) is too close and should curve away from the nose bridge as it nears the silver nose like Anh,
3. Dome should sit lower to square off the face.

But overall looks better than ss since ss has a basically flatter face...if hot toys cleans u the paint application on the face it'll look better.

It's not perfect, but it is an improvement over the stock ss figure.....

Good catch on the silver paint - it's amazing how that extra couple of mm's of paint could alter the look so much.

You can also see how the eye lenses should curve slightly around the face, yet the Sideshow eye lens are quite flat. HT's looks alsmot a little too much, but could just be lens distortion.

The HT is a very good sculpt though. It's hard to say if this is better in overall shape/accuracy than the Kaiyodo mask (it will certainly have crisper lines than the Vinyl,) but if that's the case, this would be the most accurate Vader sculpt ever done in 1/6 - if you don't include TooMuchGarlic's scan of the prop helmet, though that's unreleased so hard to judge.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I reckon I could throw a lump of clay at a stucco wall blindfolded and still end up with a better Vader helmet than the heap of trash Hot Toys has served up here.

Go on then - let's see it!

:lol

Here's my Vader + Obi Wan two pack - I think the results speak for themselves:

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

As I hurled the clay at the wall I was thinking of the eFX helmet.

Understandable since EFX and hot toys are partners.

I remember the time EFX released the TIE Fighter and it took them 4 years to ship it. Problem was they were using Sideshow parts as stand ins. Can you believe it? It was worth the wait though, one of the best pieces in my collection.

Is there anything that Sideshow hasn't mucked up? Why can't we all be perfect like a Hot Toys figurine? Maybe HT is the true meaning of Christmas Charlie Brown.

I moved that paint line a touch with photoshop and toned down the harsh light a bit with B&W. Left is ESB prop, middle HT, right is SW prop.

Obviously HT dome needs to be lowered and silver paint toned down, but didn't do that.

Getting there, but the pic of the HT is looking down an lit up under the dome. Vader is ALL about the angle you look at him. He is meant to be viewed from below looking up. I can show you pics of my efX Legend and SL helmets from that angle in that light and you would all say they are not accurate... And they are as close as you can get to screen used. Wait for the official specs and pics... Or the 1/4 will translate better.

Important detail, if it isn't already the case:
hot toys has to keep the
interior of vaders eyelids (eye sockets) BLACK......only gunmetal on the outer edge of the upper lids through the forehead

Yeah, people don't seem to realize that the Vader we all know only exists in a dark room with a spotlight from above, and with us looking up at him.

Look down on him in a flatly/brightly lit room (and with interior cowl backlit) and the helmet's just all kinds of weird looking.

I think this sculpt is a whole lot closer than people realize. There really haven't been any pics of him under the right "Vader conditions" to see it yet.

All the more the dome shouldn't give him the "surprised" look from above...I like vader from all angles...especially from above...my cinemaquette is almost a carbon copy of my eFx except for the dome placement, so I can tell that ht sculpt is close.

...just some minor tweaks in the paint job and (personally) a wider opening in the dome toward the temples, should make all the difference. Personally, it is as close as the marmit.

I am excited to see a 1/4!

Well take the lens distortion out of the face on the HT one and it looks pretty great in that comparison. Miles ahead of SS. Which looks like garbage there? I have a modded one which I love though.

Looking better...

Looks tons better out of the overexposed light.

The details in those shadowy black silhouettes are amazing! Just one thing.

Perfect, just like the movie!!

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Love that diorama set-up. Hope HT will release a Death Star backdrop. Have always wanted a display like that for Vader and some troopers.
