Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

No doubt in my mind that that Vader is going to be too tall once again. I bet the Sideshow detractors never complain or rip it though because, "hey, it's Hot Toys". :lol Makes me wonder what people would say if the SS Empire Strikes Back Vader was advertised in the Hot Toys layout for spec/pics and had a Hot Toys logo at the bottom left hand corner.

In that video, honestly, both products look evenly matched. The more shots of Chewie and Han, the worse they look. That Scout/Speeder and Tauntaun though? Holy ****. The Hot Toys Stormtrooper looks just as nice as the Sideshow Tie Pilot and vice versa. C-3PO is just as accurate as Hot Toys Vader. Sideshow Pilot Luke blows "Old Ben" out of the water (well, the protos anyway). Jango is Jango and the troops look fine, as always. Overall, Hot Toys has a really nice 1/4 Fett and some troopers, Sideshow has a really nice creature, vehicle and pilots.

Except ssc figures will have crappy mp paint apps and HT will be a lot better in that regard at least. I mean if ssc wont try to have good paint apps on a figure like SNAKE PLISSKEN, what hope is there for sw figures?

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

The eye lens section specifically.
Sure, but one can always make those complaints (like Vader's dome on the HT). At the end of the day, it's still an excellent representation.

Yes, google a comp for yourself at your own leisure.
I will do, but it looks awesome to me. If I had lots of space and money, I'd be very happy with that in my entertainment room.

Sol... :lol

I'd somewhat agree with your 'mythos' example - somewhat. It's clearly Guiness, but it needs fixing of course, yes.
And yet you're sooo tolerant here. I guess this is sort of what I find annoying. If it were SSC, there wouldn't be any "oh, they'll fix it". You'd just be slamming the **** out of it. C'mon, now, son!

Yeah, just like how you thought HT nailed RoboCop's paint apps, right, CG? :lol Holy smokes you guys are such hypocrites. :lol

I'm judging things purely on prototypes. Sideshow's figures in the video and pics look fantastic. Whether or not that will be the case when they're in the hands of collectors remains to be seen.

well ok then but I am curious who does the sculpting and paint of sideshow's protos, they usually do a really good job
and its a shame they don't try harder to replicate that at mp.

Sweet Christ! He looks bigger than Sideshow's :panic: :panic: :panic:

Message to doll companies: Darth Vader was NOT played by Peter Mayhew

:duh

Dome looks snazz in that shot.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Judging from that pic, he's barely shorter than 1/4 Boba! :horror

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Vader is on a tall clear stand (stormies have a short stand) and is positioned further forward than the other figs and the pic is taken from a low angle. 1/4 Fett is further back, behind even the stormies.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Jango is Jango and the troops look fine, as always. Overall, Hot Toys has a really nice 1/4 Fett and some troopers, Sideshow has a really nice creature, vehicle and pilots.

Not in that vid, Jango is still just a repainted Boba head.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I don't know take away that stand and boba looks kinda small :lol That's some huge lense distortion or depth perception issue :horror

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

The Budget Stark guy never seems to think much of Sideshow... at all. His videos are great but he's totally disinterested by all the SSC stuff and seems 100% a HT fan.

Right before he shows Rex and the other V 2.0 clones he says that he thinks this is Sideshow stuff, so it won't be available in Hong Kong. I'm sure this will change once HT starts the distribution chain over there, but for now, yeah, since the guy seems to pick up all his stuff at their Secret Base store, es obviously a little more concerned with things that will be available to him soon.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Back on topic, Vader looks fantastic, actually was going to drop one of my SSC Vaders anyways to make room for other stuff, but am now thinking I'm staying at 2 Vaders and just grabbing this to replace one with. Really would love a huge display like they have him with the Stormies. :panic:

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Rumor is that is actually the 1/4 Vader on display.

The 1/6 is even with Stormtrooper Luke.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

That Tantive IV display!!!!!!!!!
KUdos to budget stark for the footage too.

Any ideas on how much that would be? They've done some dios for IM haven't they? It looks great, though pretty limited in what you can do with it. I would have loved a Death Star or Star Destroyer area where any imperial or hunters could be displayed. That being said, I would buy the Tantive display.

I'm thinking of having two Vaders also (I also need two 3PO's :slap) but this is going to get $$$... the SSC is ESB and HT is SW but the HT seems more halfway between SW and ESB/ROTJ.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I must say I like the look of this Vader a lot. He looks bulky and mean so this is good.
BUT he's got 3 degrees of defects:
1) Nitpicking level (aka they look good by if you che check the reference pics side by side you will note the difference): shapes on the mask, size and positioning of the boxes, etc.
2) Medium level (aka you look at the figure and you can tell they are wrong): mainly the colors and the glossiness.
3) SSC Vader level (the main thing that compromises the figure): the height!!!! When someone asked what could be improved from SSC Vader DX the first quick answer was: at least they can do the right height...it's just so easy!

Maybe they will fix it but at the moment the guy is giant sized...
Condisering this pic as a reference (in Budget Satrk video the size difference seems the same):

matching with this old pic of unaltered SSC Vader DX next to DX-07:
forum.php

and hoping HT is considering the correct height difference between Luke and Ben:
lukeobi.jpg

this means this Vader is BIGGER than SSC one. :(
