Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

They got Keifer maybe they could get some writers from 24 too, you know they'd find a way lol.

What i wanna know is where Zero is in the Government Hierarchy. Do the Patriots control everything yet? What happened to the remaining philosophers, did he take control of that regime too?

Was JFK being controlled by the Philosophers in MGS3 or was it a genuine elected government?

My guess is Kojima will ignore all those details. I would actually prefer that if the answers are as stupid as in MGS4

He won't disappoint you, I guarantee it :lol

He's been lazy ever since MGS4 in terms of filling holes.

filling holes.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Reading an article n Kotaku and this tidbit interested me.

I had a feeling Eli was Liquid but this solidifies it

in the Bible Eli and David were brothers of a cursed blood line.

As we know Solid Snake's real name is David. Liquid is raised, at least for some of his life, by BigBoss.

Id like to see the dynamic between BigBoss and Liquid, he'll probably be a complete ******* judging by how Liquid turned out lol. I see why they needed a Hollywood actor for this game. \They need someone who can really pull of BigBoss change and make it believable

Dude does a good job, although he never played Peace Walker so ignore all the Paz and Chico stuff missing

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

David and Eli eh? I'm guessing were almost certain on Eli's identity as Liquid Snake. I think of all the aspects in the game, the main thing I want is the history of Snake and Liquid.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I didn't realized that we needed Liquid Snake's backstory since he never left a legacy beyond what Ocelot planted for him but sure, why not.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The terrible job the way he handled all three Snakes UGHH

Old Snake acting so depressing all through MGS4.

Liquid Snake used as a chop shop of organs and faking deaths.

Solidus Snake skinned alive and then burned.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I think we are going to see Big Boss do some bad stuff here. Gunning down kids and the like. Bring it on

Liquid and Solidus's dreams pretty much died when they did. it's funny that none of their actions left any impression on the MGS world. I would have really love it if Liquid's resurrection was done the same way as Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Now that would have been cool and Liquid would have posed a a much more serious threat to the Patriots.

Sorry, but the Eli and David connection doesn't make sense. David in the Bible was the youngest of six siblings, and he had eldest brother who was named Eliab - not Eli. Needless to say, there was a large age gap between them, and they weren't twins like Solid and Liquid.

Furthermore, the person who is commonly referred to as "Eli" in the Bible was a high priest from the tribe of Levi, while David was descended from the tribe of Judah.

David's line was also blessed by God (not cursed). From II Samuel 7: 13-16 - "He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the son of men. But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever".

Now, I do have my suspicions that Eli in the trailer is Liquid, for the fact that Liquid grew up knowing Big Boss, and spent some time in the Middle East - where The Phantom Pain takes place. The kid in that trailer also looks to be the right age for Liquid.

The Biblical connections though, just aren't there.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hope you didn't Google that, you seem to really know your Bible Solidus! :clap

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I didn't Google it :lol. But, I needed to dust out my New King James to pull out that reference from II Samuel, for a moment.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Great catch, Solidus. And here I was about to start thinking of what Solidus' "real name" could be, other than George.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I do recall that MGS 4 was riddled with analogies from Genesis. Eva (who was like Eve) was tempted by a "Snake". The "apple" represented the forbidden fruit of cloning. So, who knows what Kojima is going to pull this time around.

But, in terms of Liquid's and Solid's relationship, it was more analogous to that of Cain and Abel's. God was pleased with Abel's sacrifice to him, but turned away Cain's offering. Cain then became jealous of God's favor towards Abel and killed his brother. Sort of like how Liquid was jealous of Big Boss's admiration of Solid Snake.

Excellent post, I always thought of Solid and Liquid in terms of Cain and Abel.

It's kind of funny that analogies of Cain and Abel have been used so much in movies and anime to the point of ad nauseam, that it's not really hard to see the connection :lol. I guess it happens to be a very popular story, because it accurately depicts the ugly side of sibling rivalry - and the extent of what can bear fruit from jealousy. That said, I'm glad that I'm an only child! :rotfl

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hahaha I haven't been that extreme with my bro though.

Overall, biblical analogies are used ad nauseam like you say, although they're losing strength, they used to be references to a "grand scheme of things" and appeal to the spiritual side of the viewer/player, now they're just gimmicks to add some sort of cheap depth to any story most of the times, like the "damsel in the fridge".

But fortunately MGS uses them in a very tasteful way.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

So me and a friend at work (we work at different sites) have been talking on the phone for hours trying to dissect and make sense of these trailers, :lol

so much to see and guess at and still tons of questions.

What weve found so far is Eli is liquid and we are presumming the kid in the cage is snake (i know the common theory is Paz from peace walker, but im just not feeling it)

Skull face is a wtf (who the ****), Keifer sutherland rules, and quite is mute and ocelots voice is perfect for a younger take

Then we have the dude that looks like a clean shaven non eyepatch wearing MGS3 BB, Im guessing strongly that this is Cambell. Also skull faces goons have the "FOX" emblem reversed to XOF? dont know what the deal is yet.

thats what weve got so far
