Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The result screen has a picture of REX on the background, but it was the original design for REX with the cannon and not rail gun.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I think I'm going to pick up the Koto REX and try to paint him with my airbrush. With them doing RAY I can see a nice display forming, whereas before I had no idea where I would put a REX that I had nothing else to display with.

Can't see the interview since I'm on my phone with a lousy connection. But judging from the comments, did Kojima actually say that Big Boss is a more relatable character than Solid Snake??

Watching it right now, I’ll let you know.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

That annoyed me. A lot. Big Boss isn't that different than Solid Snake to the point where he's more human or emotional. What a lame excuse. If anything, Solid was limited by the hardware and generation, I think he could have expressed a lot more emotion if you could see his facial expressions like you can Big Boss in the newer games. Playing MGS4, I felt like you got a lot of emotion from Solid.

Also, the way Kojima works.. that's annoying too. A good creator is always aware of his mistakes and limitations and should work to improve on those weakness and surpass limitations. Not just go "I want to do this, so I will do it". That's important, but as an artist myself I think it's foolish to not at least acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them. No wonder MGS is where it is now.

Not excited about the "stealth" aspect either. I think it could have been handled better. Instead of saying "you will always be caught b/c the field of vision is 360"" blah blah blah, they should have worked harder to make it so you can hide better. Oh well, not a big deal per say, just kind of odd..

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

He said every time he makes a game he believes its his last, and when he made MGS3 he never thought he would still be using Naked Snake as a character. He chose Naked Snake for this game because he’s more human, he cries laughs etc… and Kojima said he likes that.

I believe you can turn the slow-motion thing off. It was stated in a video. But I have to disagree with you on MGS4. Solid was colder, and never liked showing emotion. Most of that game he was grunting. Most of the emotion came from the other characters basically watching him deteriorate. Big Boss showed way more emotion in the final scene then Solid did the whole game in my opinion. But Kojima could just write Solid to be more human so I guess the blame is still on him haha

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I guess it's all about perspective. I felt like Solid was showing a lot of pain and remorse in the game. I didn't see it as him being cold, but him suffering and struggling to deal with it. Not to mention I think he was a much deeper character than any other in the franchise. He was used, abused, and had his life cut short and never once took the easy road or became selfish. He took the high road, fought the good fight until the end of his life, and always tried to do the right thing.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I prefer Big Boss actually, but I don't think Solid Snake is cold or anything

Maybe he used the wrong words, :dunno Big Boss has a more tragic story imho
in any case...

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

More tragic than being forced to clean up your "Father's" mess, kill your brothers, genetically engineered to have your life cut short painfully so, watching your friends die, seeing people you care about become cyborgs, never having a real loving relationship, etc. Okay, I won't argue, we each have our favorites. Still excited about this game. :)

True they both had it bad, but Solid could have been happy with Meryl at the end of MGS1 and chose not to.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Well, technically Kojima did that, but I mean, I see your point. I don't think Solid allowed himself to love. He tried to retire and never could until the end. It's like he touched on in MGS2, he seemed to genuinely believe he had a responsibility to society to protect it and stop things like Metal Gear. I think of him like Batman, he would never let himself rest, he had to keep going or else it would tear him up inside.

Big Boss had it bad too, certainly. It's a shame how tragic the entire story of MGS is. It's never really very happy at all, for anyone.

That was actually his choice.. he wanted to be all macho in MGS4 and ignore Meryl :dunno (but being that old he didn't have much time anyway)

Nothing worked well for Big Boss because of Snake, it just feels like Snake had some victories, Big Boss didn't but I have to admit there are some things about the story I don't know yet, so I'll have a better or maybe different opinion later

If we keep talking about this we'll go on forever :rotfl I just prefer Big Boss thats why I say all this. I'm excited about this game too, hundreds of hours of gameplay are coming :hi5:

They all had it bad, I think you could argue for your favorite blow for blow, lol. I don't mind, it's a fun discussion and light hearted. I dig Big Boss too. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about MGSV. I figure there is going to be a big learning curve and a lot of exploring to do.

Yea Raiden had it horrible has well haha. Never thought of Solid being similar to Batman until now.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, Raiden might have had it worse than everyone, ha. Imagine finding love, then never really being able to love again. Being a cyborg must be pretty miserable at times.

Not to mention trying to recover from your childhood as a soldier and being tricked and turned into a mercenary essentially. Then a cyborg. Ouch.
