I think the Deadpool IP should never take itself seriously. It’s baked into the character since he constantly breaks the fourth wall.

I would never put it up against the OG Trilogy in terms of lasting impact but I’m happy with the results since IMO it’s being true and respectful to the source material.

but then then don't have serious plots. then don't have serious villains. then don't have moments of sacrifice.
treat it like scary movie or meet the Spartans, treat it like a full parody. don't give me a sad story about wolverine. don't give me a redemption arc.
just have wolverine fart in front of Deadpool.
this is a Deadpool movie so don't have sad moments. don't have wolverine suffering.

I’m still trying to comprehend who DP really is.

His humor and 4th wall breaking is a gimmick that actually serves a purpose, the narrative is certainly not hurt by it.

He’s taking the audience on a journey WITH HIM vs a normal movie where the audience goes on a journey without the main protagonist personally inviting them to join.

You can have stakes and emotions while the gimmick is happening.

Deapool’s schtick is literally a 3D narrative minus the glasses.

In other words, you’re being too critical lol

Saw this today, I thought it was a lot of fun!

Pretty much all the cameos got spoiled the past couple weeks via screenshots popping up everywhere except

Spoiler Spoiler:

Fortunately it was still really enjoyable and I was surprised at how poignant they even managed to make Wolverine's arc.

Yay Khev is back!

I'm not gonna feel any emotion if there's some fart joke coming.
but did you feel bad for the characters in scary movie? do you feel any tension while watching not another teen movie? no you don't feel fear or tension or sadness. its a comedy. there's no real deep emotions.
I'm not even saying that this movie wasn't good or that scary movie wasn't good. I'm not saying Not another teen movie wasn't good

but Ryan wants to make a comedy with wall breaking and sex jokes. then commit to it. commit to the scary movie treatment.
don't give me a sob story about his girlfriend or wolverine or the kid from Deadpool 2. make the silly farty sex jokes and let it be a comedy.

I was braced for some stupid punchline to interrupt Logan's story to X-23 "Guardians of the Galaxy" style but thank God that didn't happen.

I'm shocked that this film went for unironic heroism and actually delivered (in addition to all the comedic bits obviously.)

X-23's team in the Void all went out like badasses and with dignity and I wasn't expecting that either.

Eh, I dunno if I agree. They let the emotional beats breathe well enough in my opinion.

I don't think it has to be that black and white.

But this movie clearly proved that you can have emotional beats mixed with the humor because at the end of the day humor is a human emotion.

Are you saying that you’ve never watched any comedy with emotional story elements?

Is laughing not a human emotion?

Is laughing and humor not compensation for dealing with trauma?

After my dad passed away I was at his grave and my wife literally farted really loud and we both lauhed out loud.

I was like “reeeeally” lol

It was funny because my father’s favorite meal was the brasilian black bean pork beef stew dish called feijoada.

In the early days of Pixar John Lasseter was quoted as saying "for every laugh a tear, for every tear a laugh" and with that mantra they pumped out classic after classic. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.
Then Katheen Kennedy famously said…

“for every force a female, for every female a force”

Cut 10 years later and no KK on stage at the massive D23 event during the SW panel lol

I have to admit that event was crazy impressive. The lighting and triple screens were next level.

No more Smugglers Run! :yess:

I can't believe that they had Jackman play the straight man from beginning to end in a freaking Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movie and not come out being a total mockery. How the hell did they pull that off, he had more dignity than in his own non-comedic Wolverine/Deadpool Origins movie, lol.
Khev,

my initial reaction to this I was very upset because I walked into it fulling wanting and expecting a full MCU reboot with the Fox X-Men in their proper costumes joining the Endgame battle. :slap

Can JAWS forgive me lol

After the 2nd viewing I actually now love what we got and not worried about what I was expecting.

I even went back for a 3rd my first time since EG!

Whoa...I can definitely seeing feeling let down then. Though as I think about it seeing the X-Men join a battle that we already saw play out in epic fashion and have largely moved on from might have felt a little...hollow?

I do like how they made it a fully satisfying swan song to the Fox-verse (including unironic tribute in the credits, which once again surprised me) while still accomplishing the hand-off to the MCU for wherever that goes (which will be either good or bad obviously but that isn't this film's problem.)

"Welcome to the MCU, though you've arrived at a bit of a low point," lol.

You can't turn things around without first acknowledging the suck, take notes KK.

I’m need to learn the bye bye dance :rotfl

I absolutely lost my **** when Snipes came out on screen.

Going in I knew of none of the spoilers, thank the maker!

But Snipes return as Blade was on my list of “Never Again Happening”

Crazy to cross that off my list.

I was shocked at how freaking good he looked! Gosh thinking back to when X-Men came out in 2000, two short years after Blade, and *24 years later* we finally got to see him and Logan fighting side by side. :yess:

I never knew I needed to see that until today, lol.

Just reading your post is insane lol

Go back just a year and make that post and people would think you were crazy lol

Like legit Snipes was done at Marvel after placing David Goyer in a head lock then jail time for tax evasion. (I forgot if it was a headlock or did he put him up against a wall with his hand on his throat?)

Done!

Nope! lol

Wow, if Snipes did all that then this was literally a textbook case of "serve the audience above all else." F*** petty grievances, entertain the fans. Make a billion dollars. Done.

Man this made me realize how much I've missed buddy cop movies. Reynolds and Jackman's chemistry was off the charts, when was the last time we saw a macho yet comedic tag team this good? Lethal Weapon days? Die Hard with a Vengeance? It's been a long freaking time.

They couldn't have done a better job even if they made this film when Jackman and Snipes were in their prime.

what comedies are those? tell me them. I'm genuinely asking. I'm not asking cynically.

Deadpools brand of humor is constant sex constant farty jokes constant cursing. like more obscene than South Park or team America world police.
I don't hate it.... but I was annoyed by it. it stopped me from enjoying it.

Deadpool is like watching a movie in a theater and a kid near you keeps yelling curse words randomly. just annoying constantly yelling sex words

I guess I don't need spoiler tags with the thread title do I.

I wonder why Domino wasn't in this. Did the actress just not want to return if all she was going to do was hang out at the birthday party?
