Got this bad boy on Friday.
Finally got a chance to sit down and soak in the awesomeness.
What a gem this figure is!
There very much
is a cut/swivel joint on the upper thigh. This, combined with the fact that there are no flare pods in the hips allows a
greater range of movement in the legs than the Mark 6.
The shoulder pauldron redesign is brilliant, and allows the arms to raise slightly higher than the Mark 3 or 6. Plus, there is sculpted gack in the figure's armpit, so when the arms are raised in this pose there is no exposed inner blank plastic (compare to the Mark 3).
The knee engineering works with two plates mimicing the patella, allowing the double knee joint to fully flex while hiding nearly all of the joint gap. Very clever. The ankle articulation seems slightly
less than the Mark 6, but a bit of dremel-work could increase the range of motion. The sliding armor panel for the toe articulation is new and ingenious.
The torso is the most improved, redesigned articulation. Two separate joints provide crouching, swivel and back-arcing stances. The joints are all tight and hold their postitions nicely. Overall, this
is the most articulated IM armor yet. The fact that this suit never existed practically (and could be cheated in CGI) makes HT's engineering accomplishments all the more impressive.
Folks who are whining about the paint job on this beauty must be blind. It looks stunning. Hot Toys must be using stencils and masking techniques with robotic spray rigs. There's no way this fig was hand painted with this kind of precision. I can find no slop on my fig.
My only nitpicks with this fig would be (1) there is substantial light bleed around the helmet and hands in a dark room. The LEDs (especially the chest RT) are really
too bright. I found the Mark 6 had too bright of a chest LED as well. They're so bright that they wash out the details around the chest reactor.
(2) The small silver battle damage section is a
major headache to remove & replace. They should have gone with a simple, quick magnet as a solution (like the bicep on the Mark 6). The larger delta-shaped chest piece is wonderfully easy to remove. The innerframe gack under the chestpiece is amazing. Like a Seiko watch band . . .
As a Shellhead fan, and an admirer of the suitcase suit, I can honestly say Christmas came early this year.
