I gotta say, I WAS really looking forward to this figure. 1/6th scale Chewbacca with real hair?! What could go wrong? Dream come true! Then I saw the face on the prototype, yeecsh :horror! There is a lot of who Chewie is, expressed in his eyes. & that first sculpt looked like he got stung by a bee, swelling his eyes shut.
But I was hopeful, I was sure Hot Toys would fix it. Then I saw the new sculpt photos from SDCC... & boy did they ever fix it :gah: . I'll be crossing all my fingers & toes, & hope they fix him right. However, I will be holding off for in hand pics from you all before making my decision.

Someone suggested that side muzzle shot was photoshopped? Nope. That was sent to me by a friend that attended SDCC.

Here's my photoshopped version (on left) compared to how it actually is (on right).

Actually, both of those are 'Shopped. Look closely - the one on the right isn't even done all that well! :wink1:

In reality, what we're looking at here is your completely resculpted Chewie and another with the fur pulled away from the bottom of his muzzle through Photoshoppic phakery in an attempt to lessen it's prominence a bit. One is redone (and looks great), the other is simply futzed. I should know - I'm the guy who did it!

It is sad:

This is the best image I can find from SDCC so far. Honestly even looking at one photos of the same two SDCC figures, this guy can look drastically different from photo to photo. Crazy. ;) I still have hope we'll get something decent in hand, but like with all HT, I'll wait until it's shipping.

I'm probably going to preorder the two-pack soon, against my better judgment. Waiting until after release will increase the price $50-$100 since it's more expensive from the start. Usually you know that after asian and US release you have several months, but there have been a couple of close ones lately. :(

In person I thought he looked fantastic. There are some subtleties of hair color that aren't visible in photos. I tried to find profile shots of the real Chewie online and couldn't find any to compare the muzzle to. I have a feeling it's not as different as people are thinking.

Beautiful!~ I LOVE IT! Awesome speeder grill, love the nod at an old classic car and using the vader grill for the front!

Thanks bro. There's so many easter eggs I put in the artwork. Chewie's indian hat has tie fighters pattern, millenium falcon in the center, and whole lotsa lightsabers on the top of it. Also you might spot Dooku's hilt next to Fett's helmet. Also Luke's goggle is the same that Anakin wore at the race. I'm just having fun drawing them.

That is the best I've seen him look.

You could be right. We also don't know if the muzzle is fixed or futzable. Those subtle colours and highlights are some of what I think is missing, maybe it's a camera thing. I can't wait to see how this thing actually turns out.

The one on the left looks fantastic. I like how his chin has been reshaped as well. Great work.

I would be very happy if Hot Toys' Chewie looked like this!

I can see where it looks off. The hair under the chin on the SDCC photograph has been futzed so that it follows the contour of his chin all the way to his neck. In the official photograph on the other page the hair on Chewie's chin / jaw hangs loose ( like a beard) and doesn't show any hint of a chin or jaw shape.

I've done a quick manip in paint to remove some of the hair curve under the chin. This is the only change that I have done and I personally think it looks better.
