Apparently they didn't get the codes in time or something. So there won't be one this month.

Yah, the codes were stuck at the docks apparently--yah that's the ticket.

Sidebar comment to the sidebar comment posted above: CPRail /Shipping in BC, Canada went on strike early last week--didn't last a day--ordered BACK TO WORK by our Prime Minister--State of California should take note--we need out toys STAT!!

What's the general opinion on whether to grab a sideshow ESB Vader or waiting for the HT ANH, taking into account their relative market prices too? Any advice from members with a sideshow?

In my (ever-so-humble) opinion I'd go with HT on this one. I found the SS Darth to feel "plasticky" and overly "toy-like". Also, I felt he was overpriced for what he was and they used light up functions, and gimmicks to justify the cost. I could have easily done without the light up base, light up helmet stand, extra mask/dome, etc. in favor of a lower price point.

HT quality is higher IMO and I feel you get what you pay for. Also I'm biased because I'm a fan of Darth from the original 1977 SW. ;)

100% agreed on this. If you want a stoic posed Vader a lot of those pieces are useless. Plus, I don't even use stands and certainly not that huge ass one the Sideshow version came with.

Can't let you get away with this bit though. This is a shiny symmetrical figure, more ROTS than anything else.

Yeah I would definitely go with the HT Vader as well. I've got the ESB, and while I was initially impressed with it, the more I look at it the worse and more inaccurate it looks. The arms are way too skinny, the mouth on the mask is way too big, and it's just really hard to find a good pose with it.

The HT may look more like the idealized ROTS Vader than the ANH it purports to be (and is way too tall), but it still looks like the much better Vader overall. And it also looks like it would take far less work to mod into a more accurate Vader as well.

For both Sideshow and HT to make Vader too tall, they must have been told to make him that size. Lucasfilm likely want Vader to be this enormous villain, even though he wasn't that big depicted in the films. It just doesn't make sense seeing the other character have been made to scale, including the Stormtroopers, yet
Vader is an inch taller than he should be.

I doubt they will change the height either.

I'd say that HT matched the height of Vader compared to Chewie and the others pretty well based on the reference material they were using:

Looks like the early bird lineup.

I'd like to stop there with those figures. But i'm scared Episode 7 is gonna be good.

I would wait and see how Hot Toys version turns out. Sideshow Vader does feel cheap as previous poster stated...it has decent cape though.

That explains a lot. Hot Toys Han looks spot on compared to that.

Thanks for the advice guys... I was tempted with SS ESB being awarded "figure of the year" and all. Also SS will cost around 3/4 of the price of HT Vader over here.

About Vader's height, he does look pretty tall from the movie poster / card art a few posts back

A classic case of 'don't believe everything you read on the internet'.. :lol

A mediocre figure with a bag full of superfluous crap thrown in, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that FOTY reference for the first time. :rotfl

Regarding the height thing, I just saw this on twitter from David Prowse. For whatever it's worth. :p

And the HT Vader supposedly stands at 13.75 according to the Sideshow site, which seems pretty close to me. So not sure why the proportions still look so off...
