Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Lo... the old SW stuff is just not as exciting.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Lol, I love that gif. But yeah, it's true. SW is my first love but this HT blitz has brought home that no-one is going to give us definitive likenesses. It's all going to be flawed and those flaws are going to be glaring since we know the property as well as we do.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I think we'll see a different story when they do the real promo shots for Vader--maybe Monday pre-order? They've done pretty nice pictures of the Star Wars figures so far and I'm thinking some of the issues with the helmet will be less glaring, and we'll see more shots/angles where it looks better than what we've seen here. That one above shot is the one where it looks very stylized and odd to me, I doubt that same angle will be shown in their photo shoot.
I think I'm most surprised by the height. It worries me seeing the little stormie next to Vader cause that's how it'll probably look next to the SS Vader too. I'll plan to go with two tall ones for now.

Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

It's nice being in the Thanos thread, for example, where everyone is just super excited it's getting made, and not bitching over every freaking detail.

Great points. HT just needs to make a few more new figures or otherwise if it's not 90% perfect there will be lots of nitpicking. The Chewie thread was mostly positive for that reason but if HT is remaking everything it invites criticism as people are torn over upgrading for something that misses the mark. If that was Tarkin instead of Kenobi people would be much more positive.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Wow very suprised how underwhelming and blah this Vader n obi one are. I expected lifelike shrunk down to perfection like the 66 duo or 89 Keaton since heard Howard was a huge star wars fan i would EXPECT PERFECTION ON A FAVORITE FRanchise of the Boss of hot toys. I hope my opion changes and look perfect since these 2 are grails to my ending star wars collection. I feel very happy with both my new n old sideshow Vaders. I know i'll buy but feel no Excitement from these 2 revealed at Con.

Just wait a couple of years for Hot Toys Vader 2.0. :lol

Good point, Ton.

This will be the refrain of every HT apologist, no doubt.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

In that one photo which until proven otherwise I attribute to lens distortion; the Vader sculpt looks like the stylized grasping Big Bad Vader illustrated on some Hasbro packaging.

I doubt the mask is that elongated and foxy in real life.

I've photographed Vader figures and Stormtroopers many times with cameras from mobile phones to a Canon DSLR with L Series lenses, and the distortion at certain angles is startling.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Why is everyone so conceded against these figures like HT automatically failed because these crap/rushed protos?
They are sloppy looking, poorly posed, at least wait for some decent photos.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Well, this was surprising.

This Vader doesn't look bad by any means but it doesn't really look like how he looks in the film either. He looks too idealized, too much like a fox or something. The sculpt of the mask, eyes, mouth and dome are just really funky. The suit doesn't look that good either the robes and cape are just plain awful.

I definitely prefer all the Sideshow modded ANH Vader's that have been shown off over the years. Those are as close to perfect as it gets IMO. Those actually look like '77 Vader stepped off screen.

I agree with this.

Vader doesn't look bad at all, but surprisingly, all those old modded ANH Vader's from members here on the boards look better. I'm pretty disappointed to be honest, not because the Vader is bad, but I was hoping HT was really going to knock this out of the park.

** There's a couple new pics on FB where he looks better, so maybe I'll just wait to make a better judgement.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Lol. Have to admit, seeing all the goodies in the Marvel section, the old SW stuff is just not as exciting. I'm still down for everything and am looking forward to having it on display, but I'm not amped for ANH Vader the way I am for HT's Thanos, say.

Also, the years of SSC vs HT yapping in here and hyper-criticalness over every last detail takes its toll. It's nice being in the Thanos thread, for example, where everyone is just super excited it's getting made, and not bitching over every freaking detail. SW is just so old now. Too many people think they're experts and it's boring to read the killjoy criticisms again and again.

I have to agree. All the REPEATED bashing of every figure is really killing things for me. While I don't care about 100% accuracy since I know nothing will ever be perfect even Hurricanes (lets see him kick out 5000 and see how perfect they are) but I am really starting to not even want to go in some threads anymore just because I all ready know its going to be the same complaints for the 500th time.

But you know that what whining is going to happen mostly in the days following reveal pics. Threads tend to settle down after that. Except in the DX05 thread, that whining went on for ages :lol
