Can it be done?

It came apart quite easily, so first step is done.

Also getting there with the Rogue one glove

Nice work, Bluevoice! I thought about this as well but don't think I have the skills or guts.
Thanks, what I did was purchase a second lightsaber arm to test it. If I had screwed the arm than I still have had the original one. About the R1 glove, if it didn't work the only damage would have been the that it had been pierced through the handpalm, in a place where you won't see it anyway when he's holding the lightsaber.

You skipped the most crucial part: How'd you get the ball joint and hand off the original?

I just twisted it with a pair of tweezers until the glue gave way. The thing is, the joint is rectangular so I used a Dremel to round it a bit and I drilled a little the inside of the R1 glove in order to make the hole a little larger in order to accommodate the joint. The joint is not exactly fixed now, but the cable and the suit is keeping the glove in position.

My Vader was modded by Jazzinc, he did all the mods from his list and hardwired the voice function, belt boxes and the lightsaber arm. I told him not to mod the gloves as I wanted to change them with the R1 gloves. So glad I did the lighsabre mod, my ANH Vader is now truly complete. My ultimate version of Vader.

So, on the original hand gripping the saber, you didn't just strip the old ball joint and hand off the saber to expose the wire and run it through the hole in the RO glove? You kept the old ball joint and pushed that through the hole in the RO glove? When you say "twisted it" did you mean that's how you got the light-up saber out of the gripping hand? I didn't think it was two pieces.

Whatever you did, well done! :clap

The lightsaber is glued to the glove in one point and protrudes the original hand with two small tabs. The original hand has a rectangular cutout to allow for the wires and the tabs. To take it apart I just turned it gently until it came loose. This isn't difficult at all. I also cut off those two tabs on the lightsaber as they didn't fit together with the R1 hand. There's enough wire so don't worry.

Next step is removing the ball joint from the hand. I screwed it first and then one part of the joint came off easily. The second part however is the one that also has a rectangular connector which is also glued to the hand. Those I had to gently twist until the glue gave way and the hand and second part of ball joint came apart.

Then I realized the wires provided were too small, the R1 hand extends to a point where the black cable was coming short so I had to extend them by using wires from a USB cable.

That's pretty much it. With a little patience and perseverance it can be done.

One more crappy pic of my ANH Vader with R1 gloves.

It's remarkable how much the "striped" lighting above makes a Vader figure look like Vader from the movie. It's almost like you could take a so-so 1/6 Vader figure and photograph it under a striped lighting set-up and it would look better than a 100% screen accurate 1/6 Vader photographed under bright/flat home lighting.

Yoda is kind of the same - he's only ever seen with a harsh bluish top light, or under very warm fire or flashlight lighting, both fairly dim in intensity, so seeing him brightly and flatly lit, it never quite looks like Yoda from the movie.

That's a fantastic explanation, thank you very much.

I'm saving your work in the event I take a stab at it. I think I'll look for a back-up saber hand first just in case.
