Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I thought this pic was exceptional.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Sideshow's ANH Vader is hit or miss with angle and lighting, some views it can look really nice.

Other views the flaws are just glaring.

HT seems no better, they've done a pretty good job, I feel like theirs has more good angles overall, but there are still some where something's off and you would think they'd have been capable of one that had nearly no issues, and I'm not even saying being spot on to the ANH helmet, as some have mentioned there almost seems to be an idealized Vader helmet standard out there for companies to meet, but even as a general Vader, it should overall feel like at least one of the films and from certain angles it seems like it doesn't match any.

:goodpost: Very well put.

Funny that we have 43 Legder Joker sculpts to choose from, yet not a single artist has made a proper Vader mask and helmet :duh

The helmet from Kotobukiya's original Vader vinyl kit comes pretty damn close to perfect.
It's a thing of beauty.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Has anyone on here made a 3D printed Vader helmet yet? You'd think it would be pretty easy to nail down the exact dimensions that way, and fine tune all the details like they do with regular head sculpts.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Still six month ago i didn't realize that there were differences on the suit of Vader between the movies. I'm not a specialist neither a Vader " taliban" even if he was my favorite character. But when i discovered the first pics of this HT Vader, something sound wrong to me. I don't know, it's certainly a great figure but it seems that this Vader came out of a comic book and not a movie. Like some of you already said, it is too perfect and idealized for a ANH version.
I always wanted just one Vader so i'm very happy with my SSC Deluxe adding that i always loved the ESB/ROTJ version.
Easy pass for me...

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

So does the Hot Toys one.

I'm not stirring the pot either. Sideshow and Hot Toys just look okay in my eyes. At this point in time, I think it's possible for a 1/6 Vader to look better than what we've been getting for the past couple of years. If I get my tin foil hat out, part of me thinks it's intentional so these companies can keep pumping out more of them. Without the conspiracy cap, I'm thinking maybe they just don't give a crap. Let's face it, it's Vader, it'll sell regardless. The recent 6" Black Series Darth Vader looks like crap, and yet it sells out everywhere. Go figure. I'm sure we'll all be having this debate a few years from now when another 1:6 Darth comes along.

It seems to me if you want any of these Vader figures to look good, you have to do things yourself. The best Vader figures I've seen around here are NEVER stock. They're expertly modded and customized and they actually look like he stepped out of the Death Star, out of the screen, and into real life.

Great post, and so true - to make a great Jedi Luke you have to combine outfits and accessories from two companies (Sideshow and Medi), body and head from HT and hair piece from God-knows-where customiser on ebay; and some people add Dragon boots too!

Never quite making the 'ultimate' version of any figure is the toy's industries version of built-in obsolescence.

Yup. Done that.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

So i wonder what this new Vader will come with? The SSC deluxe came with a ridiculous number of extras, some that will just sit in the box. What will HT do?
Will they go the same way as the deluxe or keep it simple?
This may have been mentioned already, but thought i'd raise the question anyway.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

I don't think ANH Vader is a figure that needs loads of extras, except a good amount of hands and maybe the suggested intettogation droid.
I mean...no reveals, no meditation chamber, no emperor hologram.

Maybe a TIE Advanced?

TIE Advanced is a must and maybe the Death Star Hangar.

Definitely hoping they keep it simple, aside from a nice stand and interrogation droid. I'd much rather the money we're spending go into the figure and not accessories.
