Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

That alone makes Star Wars (original) so special. To get all those sets and costumes and special effects; the sheer volume of imagination, every shot with something amazing in it. That film is a miracle in so many ways. Especially for 9.5 million dollars.

I think Lucas forgot about that along the way. I hope he remembers one day. For his own sake.

It is what makes ANH so special. You can feel the budgetary difference between that and the movies that followed. In this day in age I have an appreciation for matte lines and crappy puppets. It all worked so well. It was reflected in all of the models and props. It had so much life to it. This is why I am hopeful for the new sequels. I was floored to hear the rolling droid was real.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

Yeah the design work in ANH is just incredible. Everything from R2 to Vader to 3PO to even random aliens and robots like the silver Death Star Droid are just really original and cool to look at.

And of course they all still hold up really well today, which you definitely can't say about a LOT of scifi from the 70s.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

It was a touring Star Wars exhibit. In it they had the screen used suit. It has so many incredible items! It had costumes for Chewie, han, 3po, r2, etc. they also had one of the falcon models and Luke's land soeeder. It was incredible to see!

I did take pics but they were lost long ago, also it was hard to get through the glass. The suit was awesome though you could see the brush strokes, especially on the chest piece. It was so low budget, I was enamoured by that. The switches look real on screen but seriously I would swear it was a block of wood lol. It was also pretty beaten up.
That's really cool. Do you remember what year it was? And yeah, the rockers are just static wood or painted resin blocks. :)

the lightsaber fx were and still are amazing as well, for technology back then.

In the first movie the lightsabers flicker and sputter and there's a discharge of energy when they get too close to another lightsaber blade - they don't even have to touch, just be close. They felt real and dangerous and you understood why only the Jedi could really handle them. The new ones just look like fluorescent tubes - absolutely no life to them.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

And even in ESB and ROTJ the animated blades still wavered quite a bit and seemed to have a sense of flowing energy to them (at least in the original versions of the movies). It wasn't until the prequels that they became those much more solid, flourescent looking tubes.

I went to a touring exhibit like that as well! It was so awesome. I have some pictures I can upload somewhere if you guys want me to.

Oh man it had to have been 8+ years ago. I went to it a few times. I even broke the rules and touched Luke's tatooine speeder just to say I did lol. I look forward to lucas opening his museum in Chicago!

Was that the Imagination tour? I saw that about 5 years ago here in Seattle... it was SWEET.

I saw the same exhibit in Orlando, truly an incredible experience. They had the Vader costume from ANH, but the helmet they had with it was obviously from ESB. I really love seeing the interrogation droid and the random medical items they used to make it.

This was from the Wichita stop on the costume and prop tour.

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

The vast majority of collectors are going to look at an "imperfect" Vader as defective and send it back, if they even notice the imperfections.

I'm reminded of when people started claiming their HT Iron Man figures were defective because they thought the battle damage was defects and scratches in the paint

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

that outfit looks to be the Lucasfilm re-envisioning of the ANH costume. Its not quite right...the 'V' in the dome seems to be missing

:slap *********. Why can't Lucas leave anything alone?

Though it does underscore how difficult it can be for many to notice the differences in the suits from one movie to the next. :lol

I think the original costume is lost. Helmet, chest box, armor, it's all ESB!

Re: Hot Toys Darth Vader Sixth Scale Figure

.....but the chest box and belt look to be ROTJ....2 little notches instead of 3 and the belt has the tie pilot button/ stud....
Come to think of it, the mask looks like a ROTJ, but that's just based on the mouth, though the paint divisions look esb.....
