I think a fair amount of ultrons flaws and bad planning was done on purpose. He's supposed to be essentially a petulant child, not a fully realized super villian. His emotions are part of his missteps. Arrogance and pride being in the forefront. He just never really believes he will lose. And he is distracted from his goal of killing the avengers by is need to evolve.

I think a lot of his flaws where intentionally there to show case that he's not a robot or a standard AI.

I agree there

He was a young AI still evolving, james spader explains that in interviews about Ultron. We factor Ultron's obsession with evolving clouded his mind, that is why he kept changing body's and wanting the vision body. He was obsessed with banishing the weak, with only the strong surviving. Has a villain he has been marvels best villain, when you look at how he reduced the avengers having to go in hiding on a ranch, while he transferred his life force into the vision body. When we look at that point of the film he had no rival, the twins he was manipulating were on his side, he had the doctor under SW's mind control, and he was all set to transfer his lifeforce into the vision body, what happened during that 3 minutes? his downfall was his hatred for humanity which scarlet found out, which unraveled his plans, that was his weakness

Well... Yellow Jacket was the best everyone else suck :chase (actually the winter soldier is great as well)

Just been wondering....how was Ultron planning to survive the extinction event?

Well Ultron can fly, so I would think he would leave the atmosphere, slam the island it blows up, he re-enters earth. Unless you mean the aftermath of the extinction event

:lecture :goodpost: Spot-on there. The way that his character was written in the movie quite purposefully focused more on Ultron's reactive moments during a lot of his failures and I actually thought that was fascinating since it actually subverted a lot of the usual tropes that are prevalent in many of his stories. Even then, he was actually pretty close at destroying humanity, if not for the Vision mainly playing a head in his defeat.

As mentioned just then, he can fly. Not to mention, since his plan is based on replicating the effects of the extinction-level event that killed the dinosaurs, it doesn't mean that the entirety of Earth is literally destroyed. Rather, it's due to the various effects of the event (natural disasters, climate change, food shortage etc.) that would cause the most danger to organic life.

:goodpost: and I would think he would drop the rock and then just float above rather than riding it into Earth, although I would :lol but who knows maybe he could have survived :dunno

He did get really damaged from Visions, Tony's and Thors energy beams but wouldnt they be more powerful, especially the Infinity Stone beam, than a Nuclear Blast

It is interesting that the avengers could not stop Ultron, it was the introduction of scarlet witch and vision that stopped Ultron, not the avengers. If we look at the first half of the movie, Ultron really does kick the avengers ass with help of course. But Ultron deceiving the twins getting them on his side, seeing the avengers scattered going into hiding on hawkeye's ranch, the plan has gone so well for Ultron he has become a one man show. Ultron he is transferring his life force into vision, at that point of the game Ultron has won, it was that 3 minutes that changed the game back to the avengers favor. Because before that, Ultron has the vision body, he has the vibranium, he is transferring his lifeforce into the vision body, the twins are very much on his side, he has blitzed the avengers within 1 hour of the film, he becomes vision the game is up for the avengers. Everything has gone to plan for Ultron, but Ultron's rage becomes his weakness and the plan unravels for him

Yea Ultron was a character that was complex and his hatred was very interesting which was his downfall, he could not quiet play the poker game to keep his cards close to his chest, and keep scarlet in the dark. Ultron's weakness there is so much rage in Ultron he could not keep it in check, she feels his rage when she looks into his mind. I thought he was by far the most interesting character in AOU, and every time he was on screen you are fixed on Ultron. He has a vast knowledge of the history of earth, every book that is out there he knows, his biblical personality from gaining the vast knowledge of the testaments, he uses has a metaphor of hatred and bringing human race to an end. We see how dark and totally out of his mind Ultron truly is, when he responds to quicksilvers question when Ultron says (the human race will have every opportunity to improve) and if they cannot? Ultron responds, ask Noah.

We can agree to disagree :duff

Ultron was a let down for me in the film as it progressed, he was far more sinister in the trailers. He looked cool and Spader's voice worked well, but inferior Jarvis kicking his butt the whole time on the down low doesn't speak highly of Ultron's intelligence, and why bother with nuclear codes when Ultron could be taking over Avengers Tower, Stark Industries, any/every IM suit Tony has available, SHIELD, etc? Heck, even the Mandarin went after Stark at his home and destroyed it and nearly killed Tony & Pepper. Being an advanced AI who plugs into everything on the planet yet doesn't even consider the idea of turning Stark's arsenal against the Avengers is unforgivable lol. Ultron and his drones scouring the planet harvesting resources for him to keep upgrading his form for the majority of the film was a snoozer. And there's that whole thing where Ultron captures Black Widow - for no reason and that led nowhere. :lol

Yep, Ultron was a bore

Trailers are as good as AOU ever gets, Ill consider those cannon :lol

uhh, what movie did you see?

And? its my view, I found Ultron the most interesting for a variety of reasons, it was the first time marvel cooked a badass villain. I found Sauron the most interesting character in lord of the rings, and mordor's cliffs got more screen time than Sauron himself

:lol

Ultron was a muppet, with strings

RRRRRRRRRRRRight, the same muppet that defeated the avengers within the first hour of the film

Defeated how? he was ripped apart by Iron man in Africa, they destroyed the sentries and muppetron in the tower ... they took vision from right between his fingers...

you might be able to argue the twins did, not Ultron
